Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light is the DSÂ’ first original Final Fantasy title after several excellent 3D remakes have graced the platform.  It should come as no surprise that it is being developed by the same team behind the Final Fantasy III and IV remakes.

The 4 Heroes of Light tells the story of a small kingdom named Horne, and follows a young man named Brandt. On the morning of his 14th birthday, Brandt learns that he is considered an adult and thus must present himself to the king. When he arrives at the castle he learns that the king is distraught because the princess has been kidnapped by the Witch of the North. Brandt is then asked to rescue her, and embarks on his journey.

Battles utilize what is called the Action Point System, a simple command-based system that players of all types can easily learn and enjoy. Like in previous Final Fantasy titles, a job system is present, known as the Crown System. It features a dozen jobs that players can assign to their characters. Their magic and abilities can be changed at will, regardless of the job they have chosen. There is also a multiplayer mode for up to four players in which players can help each other out and conquer tough dungeons.

In terms of graphics, the game will be in full 3D with a storybook aesthetic.  It will feature character designs by Akihiko Yoshida, character designer for Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy XII.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light will be released on October 5, 2010.
