Topic: Virtual Console Fridays: June 22, 2007

Only two games this week for Europe and only one for Australia, but a big one it is.

 This week's lineup for Europe is sparse with only two games newly available for download.  The first is China Warrior, a side-scrolling Turbografx beat-em-up starring a Chinese Kung Fu protagonist, which was originally released in 1987 by Hudson Soft.    

Also from 1987 is Mega Man, the side-scrolling action game from Capcom.  First in a long line of games starring the blue bomber and his predecessors, the self-titled Mega Man pits the robot against the first six of Dr. Wily's Robot Masters.    

Mega Man is the only Virtual Console game released this week in Australia and New Zealand.  Turbografx games have not yet launched in that region, so gamers there will not see China Warrior at this time.    

Neither of these games have yet come to North America, but China Warrior is currently scheduled for release there next Monday.

I wouldn't call Mega Man a big game, especially considering how much better Mega Man 2 is.

Ugh, the backlog of games Europe now has that we don't have in North America is ridiculous:
Donkey Kong Jr. Math (NES)
Yoshi (NES)
Mach Rider (NES)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)
Adventures of Lolo (NES)
Balloon Fight (NES)
Mega Man (NES)
F-Zero X (N64)
Vectorman (GEN)
China Warrior (TG16)

At a rate of 3 games per week,  it would take 4 weeks just to get through the backlog (and that's assuming we get no other games).

I didn't say "best" or "most popular."  You can't have Mega Man 2 without Mega Man 1!

Well, we got Super Castlevania IV before the first 3 Castlevania games (and Contra III: The Alien Wars before Contra and Super Contra).

I'm sure Capcom will end up adding every Mega Man game released on the NES/SNES, even Mega Man Soccer.

Not only is it the first Mega Man game, it's the first NES VC game from Capcom whatsoever.

Europe has two fewer titles than the US, but, at least in my opinion, a better selection. F-Zero X is likely to hit in the US this coming Monday, but then again I said the same last week after it came out in Australia and Europe. Vectorman stings as it was on Sega's list of games to be released in March and I've been waiting for it since then. Balloon Fight is a recent European release, so hopefully it will come out here soon. And, although being the worst in the series in my opinion, Super Mario Bros. 2 is a solid game, and if nothing else, opens the door for the finest in the series, Super Mario Bros. 3.

Also, the three major American exclusives the way I see it are Ninja Gaiden, Sonic 2, and Tecmo Bowl, and Sonic 2 can be had in Mega Collection and Tecmo Bowl, being an American football game, may never come to Europe and the Europeans probably wouldn't care.
