Deep Labyrinth a First person RPG
« on: September 11, 2005, 06:47:37 AM »
The makers of Xenogears, the Chrono games and Baten Kaitos is making a First Person RPG like morrowind on the DS. It seems like if you want to cast a spell you do writing gestures on the touch screen (ex. a jagged like for a thunder spell.) The graphics are pretty solid for a DS title http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=5528 if you want to check them out.

Well, "makers of" only goes so far  Here's the quote:
Quote

Why is this title notable? Besides having Yasusnori Mitsuda (Of Chrono Cross, and Xenosaga fame) compose the soundtrack, Masato Kato, the scenario writer for Baten Kaitos, Xenogears, and both Chrono games is also writing the story

So basically it's going to have awesome music and a decent story.  That doesn't make it fun.

The thing is, it's a first person RPG (FPRPG?).  When you don't have the character to look at, the environments have to be extremely interesting.  Morrowind did a fantastic job at this.  Judging by those screens, it looks like the enviornments in this game will be extraordinarily boring.  I hope it shapes up.

What?
This is looking incredibly, incredibly awesome. Look at those enemies. Those outdoor environments. That style.

But my view on this is probably tainted: this game is making me really nostalgic for old PC games.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

I got to try that ninja simulator years ago, I forget its name
I believe it was from namco, were u swung a sword attached and killed off ninja's
I like the idea of using the stylus for the weapons is cool, It does look very lacking in detail in the pics thu

It looks promising....maybe?  At first when i saw the picture of the tree i said Huh! hell no graphics look way terrible then after scrolling down and look at the detail on the characters like the elephant , and that bunny i said wait a min?  i can play a game with a f'up tree but the characters though if they look f'up then we have a problem but they dont they look good..

Reminds me of the old Might & Magic games... any idea if it's full motion FP or just the box motion with an FP view like the old M&M games?

I loved Morrowind. Frankly this has a very bland look to it so far, but those screens look uber-beta.
