Nintendo Starts Podcasting
« on: August 31, 2005, 01:49:04 PM »
Nintendogs is the topic of the company's first podcast.

For those unfamiliar with podcasting, the term describes a new internet radio phenomenon where original content is being put out there by basically anybody at all. Lots of companies are jumping on the band wagon and starting their own podcasts. Podcasts can be subscribed to and automatically downloaded when new episodes become available, and listened to on to on the listener's schedule.

Nintendo has launched their own official podcast, which you can download from this link. The podcast was recorded live at their recent Dog Days of Summer: Girls Gaming event, which took place at the Nintendo World Store. The podcast describes the event and interviews various attendees and Nintendo representatives while also describing Nintendogs' various features.

The podcast was recorded by Carl Franklin, who mentions in  his blog that there is a strong possibility he will be doing more podcasts for Nintendo in conjunction with Pwop, a professional podcasting company.

Sorry, but I have to.

Podcast: Someone had the revolutionary idea of taking a compressed audio file and putting it online. Yeah, doesn't sound so sexy when I describe it for what it is, does it you morons? It would have been a great idea if streaming audio wasn't already around for over a decade before the word "podcast" entered the lexicon. Man, I can't stand the word "lexicon." Talking about all these sh*tty words has made me start using sh*tty words. I'm so pissed, I just slammed the door shut on some kid's nuts.

Podcasting seperates itself from streaming in quite a few ways.

1. You don't have to be on the net to listen. You can download and listen later. Streaming ties you to a computer and it also costs a crap load more than straight downloads, which is why streaming failed, bandwidth expense.

2. Podcasts use RSS to allow users to subscribe to them and automatically download new episodes as they are released.
