If that's the case it's going to add to my feeling of being gypped with WW. It's starting to seem like they threw WW out there just to hold us over till the real deal came out.

I really have no doubt now that The Wind Waker was there just to hold us off, although a good game, this one seems like it will wipe the floor with it.

And I think you are completely right to consider that you or all of us got gypped with The Wind Waker.

" WW's storyline was impossible to further if you want to get rid of the boat travelling (the boat wouldn't exist anymore, anyway)."

Not really...Link and Tetra went out to find the new Hyrule...This could be the land that they found...

I'd say that's not Epona. They already had two games in the OOT time, I doubt they'll add a third. It's probably a new Link and therefore new horse.

Come to think of it, what does a Link do after he's done with his quest?

I'm speculating that this game is in fact WW2 and that Hyrule has been unflooded and now Link has to get rid of all the evil in it and do some other stuff.
Ahahahahahaha, is it "Super-Jump-to-Conclusion Day already? Its not a sequel to Wind Waker. Like the first Wind Waker, the Hero of Time (or Winds or Cheese or whatever) is not the same Link in each game, which means zilch connections between games.

Seriously, I really don't expect the story of this new game to relate much with the other games - MM was only similar because it was set in a "parallel universe" or something.  And WW and OoT were separated by a gap of 200 years, so really, there is nothing linking these games apart from Link and possibly Zelda and Ganon/dorf.

So relax, watch the trailers some more, and get ready for some huge surprises!

I think it's silly to worry about how this game is going to tie in with the others in terms of story.  There's always been a lot of inconsistencies with the overall Zelda storyline and I've just come to accept that.  Wind Waker was the first Zelda game to directly reference a previous generation title and in the end that just confused the hell of me.  How could all those other Zelda games exist if the world was flooded?  The Oracle games are even more confusing since they have characters from Ocarina of Time living in another place and acting as if they've never met Link.  I say they should do what they've traditionally done: release the games in sets of two with one title starting over brand new and the other continuing it and let the fans sort out when each Link existed.  Just stay away from world altering events like great floods that absolutely f*ck the whole storyline up.

Actually I do believe that the other Zelda games happened befor WW. Everything became flooded after TLOZ, ALTTP, MM and the others. Im pretty sure Miyamoto made it clear that the time line goes in order from when the games came out.  And that the story retells itself with a new boy named Link.

Anywho this game does look super amazingly amazing. I was at school in one of my classes yesterday checking on E3 when I first saw it, and I had every Zelda and non-Zelda fan crowded around the computer to see this amazing looking title. But if theres anything im hoping for is to see at least a couple of bright and sunny days with these amazing visuals.

GRRRR...Let's not turn this into a timeline debate here, but OoT is the first game, as Miyamoto said so...Wind Waker is RIGHT AFTER OoT...Therefore, Hyrule is unflooded sometime after WW for the rest of the games take place or a new Hyrule is founded somewhere else...

Yeah, I really don't understand why everyone has to make it so complicated. So what if the world was flooded? It's a land of magic and mystery, you think it can't be "unflooded"? Or even more simply, as Bill suggested, Hyrule is begun anew somewhere else.

how can anyone think that way?

would you rather have never gotten to play that game?
not like you were forced to go spend money on it. you could have never bought it.

personally i prefer having both over one.

gypped,  it is a fun game cartoony or not.

I forgot but didnt it end with Ganandorf being trapped again and Link and Zelda being sent back up to ensure saftey of the world?

Someone please re-jog my memory.

Ganondorf was trapped, without possession of the Triforce of Power (I'd say he's stuck for good here, cuz his "Precious" is now gone), and the Link/Tetra dynamic duo were sent back up to find [establish?] a new Hyrule, their own Hyrule, free from the submerged relics & burdens of the past.  They have the main ingredient to do so:  the surviving member of the Royal Family.

Though open-ended, I think it provided a respectable amount of closure to the [CERTAIN] events in Ocarina of Time, which I thought stood fine by itself.  Geez, I'm not sure how reasonable it is to ask Nintendo to give us "direct" Zelda "sequels," cuz it's somewhat rediculous that Ganon CAME BACK from previous imprisonment to be the main villain AGAIN, and try to gather the Triumph Forks AGAIN.  Remind yourselves of the first 2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies... Shredder... SUPER Shredder.... is once just enough?  I don't ask for "Zelda sequels," I ask for "the next Zelda game."  What would make it qualify as a sequel in my eyes is how previous gameplay mechanics are inherited from earlier titles, and what new elements are introduced on top of the staples.  I'm personally satisfied with The Wind Waker.

About the Royal Family, Link & Tetra (Tingle & Tetra?) will probably extend the family line years down the road, and you know, have a Royal *Family*.  But that's besides the point.

Speaking of open-ended, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO young LINK(and Hyrule) AT THE END OF OCARINA?  YOU KNOW, HE PUT THE MASTER SWORD BACK AND MET UP WITH KID ZELDA?  OMG WTF WHO'S ASS DOES LINK HAVE TO KICK NEXT IN THIS PRE-EXISTING PEACEFUL LAND OF HYRULE?  DOES LINK BECOME A japanese GIRL, ZELDA GET CAGED, AND BREAK DANCE IN SOME STRANGE sUPER fAMICOM COMMERCIAL?
-- I think that's a more important question to ask/answer rather than inquiring about Link/Tetra/Columbus' fantastic voyage in search of the New World.  This Ocarina/ending issue pre-dates the Wind Waker/ending issue, right?

~~~~~
HOLY SMOKES I'm envisioning a Zelda game with 2 playable characters that have 2 separate, but related/inter-influencing adventure paths, where you don't reach the end of the game until both paths are completed and the 2 characters finally meet (again?) to face the end stages together.
Alright, maybe gypped was the wrong word to use, but it wasn't the The Legend of Zelda's finest hour, if you get what I am saying. It was a good game, that's all good, not great, not amazing just good, and that's how I personally feel. I think Nintendo could have done a much better job with the game.
Yes, me too. I think The Wind Waker is amazing though. I love it, and I think it's as good as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. However, it had the potential to be better than it was, and be better than OoT and MM. That's why i'm sad that the next Zelda isn't cel shaded, i'm craving for a better cel shaded Zelda.
I also care more about the gameplay additions than the story. While I read what everyone says and watch the cutscenes in Zelda games, it sorta goes right in and then comes straight out, I forget most of what happens, but I enjoy just staring at it... if that makes any sense.
I demand more footage of this new Zelda!
I don't think we got gypped with Wind Waker.  I mean it was still a great game and the worst parts of it were all gameplay (too much sailing, too easy, triforce piece hunting) so odds are cel-shaded or not the good and bad parts would have remained the same.  I think the better word to describe the situation is "swerved".  Nintendo swerved us when they showed us realistic Zelda at Spaceworld only to switch it with cel-shaded Zelda the next year.  The switcheroo is what really pissed people off.  It wasn't so much that we got a cartoon Zelda but that we were first given the impression that we would get something else.
