Well, seeing that I've been living in a hotel for the past three days with no access to the internet and a free breakfast buffet, I think it's perfectly reasonable to have not posted much and to keep my prestigious title.

Just another rumour about Nintendo doing something here then, you get these sorts of things here. They're not so different than mirages in deserts: they're both born of desperation mixed with cautious hopefulness. Still, this one seemed a bit more likely; if they were bought by a large arcade chain, for whatever reasons they might have decided to put it in Auckland; you don't need a city of more than 900k or so to reach a sort of critical mass I guess.

It seems that NoNZ has been marginally better of late, taking into consideration their limited expenses. We got the All Blacks GBA SP, and I saw an add for it. It was aimed solely at kids, and was played at 2am, but it was at least a start.

Thanks for telling me, and thanks to Mario who I forgot to thank for the Sonic Mega thingie information.

Small question.  I don't think many of the Aussies will be able to answer it as it has to do with the Visual C++ program.  Maybe somebody with experience will venture by to read this question (one that is so simple I am embarrassed to ask).

Alright, I have Microsoft Visual C++ 6 and I want to get started.  I open up the program and then what?  I have no clue what I need to do to start writing the code (not that I have anything useful to write).  The help section doesn't work (literally) and i can't find anything online to help me.  I want to start with the simple and cliche beginner program "Hello World" but don't know where to start.  Where do I write the code and how would I execute it?

Hey, I'm from New Zealand as well.

KnowsNothing: I can't help you with that, but if you want to learn to program, I can recommend Python. I know it's not C++, so sorry if you need to learn it for school or something, but Python really is something. There are thousands of tutorials, but this one probobly takes the cake. There's also a mailing list if you want more specific help. If you're looking for web based stuff, there are (more advanced) tutorials here. It's a powerful language and it's easy to learn. It's also free.

For programming, I suggest everyone look at Java. I've been learning it over the past year. Easy for beginners, powerful for the advanced programmer. Heaps of tutorials, especially at www.java.com. The only downside is the large download and setup of everything needed to get started. Worth a look, trust me.

shifty:  well, apparently they do teach java at my high school (next year baby).  I got a wee bit confused...first there was C++, then it was java, then it was BASIC, now it's BASIC and java.  Bet your buttocks I'm taking java.

And i'm learning C++ now too...but I can't even figure out the flipping program. *curses*

*loads shotgun for KN and Swordsplay*
HUNT'D
KN: C++ is similar to Java in terms of programming structure and such, so it won't be such a huge difference.

DO U WANT TO BE A WEATHERMAN?

If you become a weather man you can controll the weather!  I live in RI and I don't like the cold.  FIX IT!

EDIT:  Shifty:  when I meant learning, i meant JUST STARTED.  I can do things about as complicated as simple math problems like a + b or something.   IF COULD GET THE PROGRAM TO WORK.

Controlling the weather will be fun.  A constant 70 degrees in Minnesota, every where else will be 65 degrees, except for KN house and state where it will be a constant -90 degrees 24/7, and if he moves, the weather goes with him.

Its interesting that you mention that, because meteorology has nothing to do with meteors, even in weather.  It deals with astronomy, even if it were raining meteors, it would still be astronomy.  Weird huh?  You'll probably see me on TV with the rest of the news crew, make sure you look for me in the future!
