NERD!  just kidding.

My grades have dropped last year from strait A's to mostly A's and a few B's.  Nothing to worry about untill I get a C, but I don't see that happening since I get 96 test averages in everything.  It's the homework that hurts, though.

Nerd, geek, whatever you want to call me- it's all true.

I have straight A's- everyone thinks I'll freak out if I get a B on a test or anything, but as long as I'm doing fairly weel, I don't care.

You spelled "well" wrong smart guy!

Anyway, it annoys me when people freak out with a B.  It's just a B!  B's are good for most!!  Be happy your smart!

That's for an entirely different reason, though- I chicken peck at roughly 100 words a minute (I'm not lying- I just got tested yesterday in school). When you chicken peck that fast, you often hit the wrong key, or accidently hit two keys, etc- I pick up most of the mistakes as I'm going along, but a few, like "weel", make it out under my radar.

I don't chicken peck, but I don't do the "regualar" way they teach at school.  I'am nowhere near 100 words a mintue, though.  Using they correct way my record is like 55 or something.  I type much faster using my way though.  We should be allowed to look at the keyboards for cryin' out loud.  THAT'S WHER THE KEYS ARE!!!!!

I'm not sure how many words I do in a minute, but it's certainly enough to get by.  And I don't type normally.  I just let my hands do what they want to do, and it gets done.

I suppose I'm sort of a smart guy. . . mostly I'm just considered a weirdo, though

I usually look at the keyboard (which is why a few mistakes make it out), but i've been chicken pecking so long I can actually type fairly well without looking at the keys.

Anyway, we should get this back on topic. I read a great article on How Stuff Works about How Caffiene Works. Really interesting stuff.

I only read a bit of that.  I didn't know caffine did that much!

But anything that mentions "quickening heart-reate" or especially "slowing-heart rate"  get me queasy.  If it happens to me I'm fine, it happens all the time to everybody, but when I think about it happening if feel faint.  That's why I always go to the nurse in Health class.

One time in math class we measured or heart-rate standing and after running.  I has to leave class the moment I started seeing stars.  I am not squimish when it comes to looking at gross stuff.  It's just thinking about heartrate and what affects it and how makes me queasy and/or faint.

Like I said, a few years ago my resting heart rate was 120 beats per minute, which is running heart rate for most people. It's around 80 or 85 beats per minute now, but sometimes if I drink a couple Mountain Dews or something, I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. That usually makes me stop consuming anything caffeinated for a long time.

If I ever found out my resting heart rate was that high I'd prolly faint.  Hearing it over the net though is fine, thank god.

Blah, 120? that's insane.
I'm on the other side of the spectrum, my resting heart rate is around 45-52.

I type sort of in the regular way, and if I type as fast as I can, I can do around 60 or 70 wpm I believe.  In casual times though, I think I can do about 40 wpm.  I don't really need to look at the keyboard, but I often do anyways.  It's not at all uncommon for me to be looking off the screen and doing something else while typing.

I have never really been a good typist, but I don't really need to be.  Accuracy is the most important thing for a programmer.

Thanks, mouseclicker, for that How Stuff Works website. I've always wondered how stuff works.

I never knew that soda could make ur heart go faster....weird.

I type about 55-70 words a minute. I do occasionally look at my keyboard..but not like every second. I type the regular way, no chicken pecking (no offense, but people usually do that when they know nothing about a computer keyboard.)

I type the correct way if I am in the mood.  But mostly I use the index finger and middle finger of both hands, to type and I can type smoothly just like that without looking at the keyboard, maybe 100 plus words per minute.  But if I look I can probably double that.  I can also type pretty fast with just one hand.  Working in an accounting office I have gotten used to using an adding machine and keyboard at the same time.

Mouseclicker, yes caffeine is addicting, but so is sugar.  Does everything have to turn into a debate with you?

One small note about Coke from way back when.  My great-grandmother was totally addicted to it.  She would have my father(when he was a little kid)  walk to the corner store and get her a 6 pack every day.  Poor old Granny didn't realize she was a drug addict.

That's one way to get people to buy your product, but controlled substances in them.  Cocaine Cola.  Coke wasn't the only soda pop, to have drugs in them, didn't 7-UP have lithium in it or at least it was in one of them.

What really annoyed me is that I actually got a D in my first year of university in an Engineering class, and my teacher was willing to write a letter to the Dean to keep me in the program, as he thought I was one of the smartest students he ever had.

WTF kind of sense does that make?  I thought I had dropped the stupid "smart person" reputation with high school.

Hey, it's the internet, you're *supposed* to argue with everyone.

Also, I have a question for you, Ms.Pikmin- do your kids like videogames? I'm paranoid that if I ever have kids they're not going to like videogames at all for some reason, and that would take away a really nice thing to have a common with your offspring. O_O

Gery Ninja: I don't think it was your reputation that kept you in the class, it was the fact that your teacher actually thought you were very smart. I can understand how having that reputation is annoying (believe me, I know), but reputations generally don't follow you to college.

Yeah, if I had kids I'd be afraid of that, too.  But you can certainly influence how a child grows up by buying them Nintendo games and stuff like that.  And I think video games will be a lot more wide spread later on, by the time kids are reasonable for me, if I decide to have some.

Even if you surround them with games, they may just not be interested at all. I'm also worried my kids might be jocks or preps. O_O

So what?  You'll love them all the same if they were into video games or not, if they were smart or mentally disabled, jocks, preps; it doesn't matter.  It's your child and you'd love it no matter what.  Or else.

Of course, but one thing I DON'T want to happen is for me to be distant from my kids. I have a lot of friends who don't get along with their parents at all- they love their parents dearly, but they can't just have fun with them like they would a friend. My parents are great people, but I can't sit down and play a game with them. Having something that can bond children to parents, I think, will give them a much better child hood. It doesn't matter how my children turn out, I know I'll love them, but I'd want them to be good people, and being a jock or a prep does not represent that to me, and I want to be close to them, not just the guy who pays for their food and clothes.
