I don't think a 3/DS Player is really any risk, it would be such a cheap device to make.
Nintendo got the price down to $130 by using one big screen so removing the screen entirely would probably knock down the price another $20-$30 (the cameras are of such low quality, they would only save cents to the dollar). What makes a 3DS TV risky isn't strictly the hardware cost. They're going after a niche market that is bound to conflict with Wii U as a standalone product and wouldn't significantly help sell Wii U as a peripheral. Add in the time, money, and effort involved in getting a 3DS TV to work and I consider that a major gamble bringing such a product to market. Basically, Nintendo would be hoping a 3DS TV would offset Wii U's failures. They dug themselves a hole with Wii U, but it's not beyond saving. They need to focus on building it up, not release a product that competes against it.
It's an OPTION. How do options hurt anyone?
See above. It could hurt Nintendo and ultimately consumers as the dominoes fall. They really don't need another 3DS product, especially one targeting a very small audience. They need to do whatever they can to make Wii U stronger. I'm really not confident that there is a scenario where releasing another 3DS variant helps Wii U.
Keep in mind that I prefer playing games on a TV and I only own handhelds for games I can't play anywhere else. I think 3DS on a TV sounds great on paper; I'm simply skeptical that it would work in practice from a business and consumer end.
adrock, just asking do u like superwoman?
Ew, no. There isn't a version of Superwoman I find appealing. If you're referring to my avatar, I like Supergirl though it depends on which one we're talking about. DCAU Supergirl (Kara In-Ze, not my avatar) is pretty excellent up until inexplicably getting written out of the Justice League Unlimited series and subsequently being absent from an otherwise strong finale.
