So, how did everyone do this weekend?
I'm really good at this.
Now you are getting into the spirit of things. I hadn't really planned on buying much this weekend but then I did. GameStop had a deal where if you buy a Toad, Yoshi or Bowser Wii Remote, then you could get a Wii U Select game for free with it. I already have all the Mario themed Wii Remotes except for Bowser which I had planned to pick up at some point in the future to complete the collection but had put off because it looked rather garish and was waiting to see if there would be a price drop. A free game seemed like a good enough offer to finally pick it up. I had hoped maybe I could get the NES Remix game but, of the Wii U Select titles they were offering, the only one I didn't already own was Zelda Wind Waker so I figured I'd grab it since free is free. Personally, Wind Waker is still my favorite Zelda title and I've played it through to completion about 4 times at least already and have one save file with the complete Figurine collection and all other possible side quests complete. But because I've played it so thoroughly, I'm not exactly looking to revisit it very soon when there are plenty of other Zelda titles I still have yet to play and been meaning to play like Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks. As for the Bowser Wii Remote, now that I can see the thing in real life, it is indeed quite garish. Such an odd choice to make for a Wii Remote. I'd have loved to have seen a Wario, Daisy and Waluigi themed Wii Remotes. The bright yellow, dark orange and deep purple would have worked nicely with the existing Mario, Luigi and Peach Wii Remotes than the way the Toad, Yoshi and Bowser Wii Remotes look compared to them. Yet, with the Switch possibly (likely) phasing out the Nintendo period of Wii Remotes, it looks like that possibility will remain a pipe dream.
However, it was on the secondhand market that I made most of my purchases acquiring Mario Party 4, Super Mario Strikers, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Lego Star Wars and Lego Star Wars 2 all for GameCube. This reduces my GameCube Desiderata down to 9 titles. 15 years later I'm still collecting titles for that bad boy.
Then, with Cyber Monday, I went for the deals on Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Star Fox Zero/Guard. I was hoping I might find a deal for Paper Mario Color Splash. I'm just finishing up Sticker Star and that game has been given a bad rap. I really liked it and now I really want to play Color Splash. (So much so that I'm really tempted to buy Color Splash at full price and forget waiting for a deal.) That means my current weekend shopping spree has brought me 4 Wii U games, 5 GameCube games and 1 Wii Remote.
I may not be done yet, either. I'm still contemplating Guitar Hero Live Wii U for about $40.00 and a few other used games I came across while checking out some video game stores. Plus, having put in my copy of Civilization 3 and playing that game again for the first time in years, I'm now interested in picking up a copy of the Complete Civilization 5 and catching back up on that series although it is a huge timesink. It's enjoyable but, man, I'm too much of a builder and always want to make these great empires on large maps which results in each turn taking a long time as I make improvements and build cities resulting in long games.
As it is, my last major gaming purchases were in April this year when I bought some games and Animal Crossing Amiibo. Since then, I've only bought Puzzles and Dragons 3DS and Yoshi's Woolly World Wii U when that dropped in price. So, having hardly bought any games for half the year, I have the funds to easily splurge on some titles now especially since I'm seeing some good enough deals for them. As I get closer to completing the wish lists I have for various systems, there aren't many titles left that I'm looking to buy so my game-spending seems to be decreasing year by year. In that regard, I'm kind of thankful the Wii U has been a bit of a bust with only a small amount of software I'm interested compared to past systems. It's made it much easier to catch up on past games while still staying quite current with today's software offerings. The Switch might change that but I may not jump on that system for a couple years with all I have to play still.
