Wario Launches Crowdfarter Campaign
« on: May 20, 2013, 10:44:46 AM »

Nintendo's anti-hero Wario launches his Game & Wario cashgrab site.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34260

Nintendo has launched a marketing campaign for Game & Wario called Crowdfarter in an amusing parody of this generation's developers turning to social donation networks such as Crowdfunder and Kickstarter.

The "campaign", spearheaded by Wario himself, aims to gather "100 katrillion coins" in order to finance Wario's dream of, well, being rich. Readers are encouraged to "donate" to the cause by liking the page on Facebook or posting comments via Twitter. Incentives for doing so come in the way of some downloadable goodies, new trailers for the game and a digital badge that proudly proclaims "I crowdfarted!".

The site offers a humorous video mocking the introductory speeches and interviews hosted by Kickstarter project creators, and provides information and links to pre-order the title online. Head on over to the official site for more details.

You know, the sad part is that I bet that if Nintendo were to accept real donations for the stated purpose of 'fulfilling Wario's Dream of being rich', they would actually drum up a serious amount money. People would donate because they're fans of Wario, or fans of Nintendo, or perhaps because they want to make an ironic statement on the concept of crowdsourcing. Whatever the reason, so many people would donate just to be in on the joke that Nintendo would likely make millions.

Perhaps Nintendo should do that and then announce that Wario has decided to donate all his wealth to Child's Play.

For whatever reason, I find this genius. The video was pretty funny, too!

Well stomp my foot and knock me out, they actually are marketing a game, and in a very funny way as well.

Do you remember the awesome faux-Youtube (really Flash) ad for Wario Land Shake It on Wii?  Where he would literally shake your browser to pieces?  Wario seems to attract some of the better, more unique marketing ideas.
