What is really crazy to me...is I don't understand some of these DLC.  Ok, new characters, great makes perfect sense.  But, I am not going to download, extra skins of characters...or color swaps, no matter if they are free...I don't care about that stuff at all...it doesn't add anything to the gameplay.

And then having to buy extra gems, seems like a way to break the balance of your game...and I hate the idea of rewarding gamers with MORE money...when it comes to playing your game...it just seems like a dick move to me.

DLC serves as an interesting discussion piece. Where do you draw the line of what is or is not acceptable? I think there are fair points on both sides. On one hand, consumers want to feel like they're getting a complete game. On the other, companies have to offer additional content that people actually want in order to make money.

The PS Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken is the best value since all the characters are included by default. It's probably the worst version of the game. Not "bad" per se, just the "worst" between 360, PS3, Vita, and PC if only because you're kind stuck with the Vita controller though that's subjective. I guess Capcom figured, the Vita version is going to have the hardest time selling so they packed it with the extras to entice people.

You know I don't have a problem, with Capcom selling additional characters, and outfits and such...to each his own...if you want to buy the extra content it is being made available and not being saved for a sequel that will come a year later.  So whatever...I am just not personally going to buy it...except for maybe the characters.

Now, the Gems is a little different...I personally hate games, and toys of any sort that force rarity...meaning that I have to spend more money to play the game better...or get the better figures.  With these Gem Packs that is what COULD essentially happen.  Spend 2.99 get this bonus damage increase of 20%...sure they may balance it and say well it also increases the damage you receive by 20% so its fair...but if you are an aggressive player, that 20% increase could mean you winning in a game...and me losing, and you have that option and I don't...not because you earned it in game...but because you bought it.  That doesn't seem right to me...and I feel tournament players may agree...though they may have all the gems bought in tournament competitions...it is still the principal.  Even if Capcom says well we have a weaker version that does 10%...it isn't the same.

The gem packs is listed under free so the only gems most gamers won't have are the ones that you got for pre-ordering.

Man, I thought KoF XIII would be easier game for me since it only uses FOUR attack buttons--WRONG.  The game is downright brutal, the trial mode for example starts off with multiple combo sets right from the begining and I couldn't even finish the damn tutoring mode --the neo mode/cancel into ultra drove me nuts.

There's going be an local tournament saturday in my area (Dustbowl III Syracuse, NY) with ten-dollar ladders for 5 games (SF4A, UMvC3, SFxT, SC5, and KoFXIII) so I might go check that out, don't expect to win anything but at least I'll pick up tips.

Damn, really want to like KoF XIII but the game is just BROKEN.  Playing on PS3 with latest updates and there's issues all over the place.  For starters I have it set to very hard yet I'm smacking the AI like they are nothing and I suck.

So I try the online mode next, takes about 1/2 hour or so with me making a room and waiting for somebody to connect, nothing happens so I exit and try joining another room just to get "don't meet requirements yet it doesn't state what the requirements are?  Another 1/2hr wasted and still no match finally I get accepted just to face off with a guy with 500+ wins under his belt--didn't even take down one of his people :( .

Poor AI, netcode, and story?  Going toss this on ebay or trade it in.

Ymeegod:  Your last two posts on contradicting yourself.  The game was too hard and you didn't like it.  Now it is too easy...but you say you didn't get better, or that you suck.

Did the update change the game to make it easier?  If the fighting engine and combos are fun, keep the game, the netcode may get better...patches may make the game more difficult...or you can just have friends come over and play.

Not really, goes by the modes,

In the trials mode (where you learn combos) the game starts you off at a very advance level IMO.  You don't learn simple 3 or four hit combos but you have to learn entire sets or strings.  It's a great tool to improving your game but I kinda missed the easy ones as well.  The trials in SF4 for example gives you both--easy ones to start off with and then it slowly advances.

All of it is kinda pointless since if you're like me and prefer offline solo play the AI is so damn stupid it won't block 80% of attacks that a blind person can see coming.

The "core" fighting style is there but the game is excuted poorly and I don't see the developer is to much of an rush to fix these issues.  So the only enjoyment I can get or recommend is playing with friends and you can even do it over the net since the netcode is a nightmare.

Well, every once in a while I feel in the mood for a fighting game, so after skipping purchasing last year's Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (I just borrowed my best friend's copy instead) I picked up the "Ultimate" version today on a whim while it was on sale at GS.  I've put a fair amount of time into it so far, and it does seem a bit more fleshed-out than the original version.  To get back in the groove, the first thing I did (after checking out Phoenix's moveset in the Training mode) is jump right back into the Hell that is Mission mode.  I have to admit, considering my lack of fighting game skills, I'm pretty proud with myself for being able to complete 50% of the challenges for the 48 main fighters in only a couple of hours of work.  I guess all that practice from those hours I spent doing this nonsense in the original game came back to me pretty quickly.  That's as far as I'm going to bother to go in that mode, though.  This game's Platinum is just insanely hard, so I'm not going to even try with the other Challenges.

I still haven't checked out the Arcade or Heroes & Herald modes yet with the new characters, but I'll get to that soon enough.  I'm not exactly thrilled at the idea of going through Arcade mode all those times to unlock all that crap all over again, especially since this game's story mode really sucks compared to just about every other Fighting Game.  At least the game presented the supposed story in text form this time the first time I booted up the game.

Incidentally, it is really frickin' ridiculous that Jill & Shuma-Gorathe aren't unlocked on the disc from the start in Ultimate MvC3, considering they were DLC characters in the original game.

fighting games have single player modes?

No really though, I think the thing with Shuma was that Marvel, really, really didn't want him in the game but Capcom really, really did and that was the best comprimise they could reach...

So Mortal Kombat Komplete went on sale today at GameStop for $30, and (having really liked the PSN 1 hour trial) I picked it up.  Between that and some other games I've purchased in the last 2 weeks, I'm probably/hopefully done buying games for a while.

I jumped back into the delightfully well-done Story mode again, and made it up to the point where I got stuck in the Trial: the Scorpion vs. Cyrex/whats-his-name fight.  That was pretty much the part where I had to dial-down the difficulty from Normal to Easy, because that fight is just brutally unfair (especially since at least one of the two has a teleport move they love to spam).  I've made it up to Kung Lao's portion of Story Mode, and I'm still very much enjoying it.  I hope that this game's story mode (where clearly a lot of effort went into) encourages the other big fighting series (BlazBlue, Street Fighter, Marvel Vs.) to step-up their game in that regard, because the bar has been set very high.  It's almost insulting putting in UMvC3 now and seeing the pitiful excuse for a singleplayer experience that game has by comparison.

I did step out of Story mode and try a few others this time now that I don't have a timer hanging over my head.  Finally finished the training mode, and I started the Challenge Tower.  The Challenge Tower has been surprisingly fun and addicting, though I'm stuck on this one right now where you have to defeat a Zombie as Johnny Cage before it pushes you off the screen. No matter what I do, the Zombie defeats me when I'm just a sliver of health away from winning.  Still, I like what this mode is doing, semi-subtly framing the core concepts of the game in easy-to-understand bites.  It feels much more practical than MvC3's absurdly difficult Mission Mode.

So yeah, this game has been surprisingly fun, and there's definitely plenty here for me as a singleplayer-focused gamer, FAR more than the Capcom fighting games have had.  And before this game, I really wasn't much of a Mortal Kombat fan.  Currently waiting for my Komplete Edition download of the MK movie to finish, and I'll probably cap off the night with it.  I rather enjoyed the movie back in the 90s, but haven't seen it since.

The first Mortal Kombat film proves that game adaptation can be done right. It doesn't even really need to be a tie-in, it's a good film in itself.

In a surprise move that originally started as a joke, Long Island Joe is in talks with pornography company Brazzers for a sponsorship. Brazzers has also stated they are considering getting more involved with the fighting game community including events and other potential sponsorships.

The ramifications of this event are very debatable since the only detail known is the deal which is still in the air. What that entails from him as a player and what it means for Brazzers involvement in the fighting game community is currently unknown.
