Lets clear a few things up.

Yes, Mario Kart is big stop friggin arguing about it!

Halo 2 will rock, rock so hard I will be rocke dto death.

But yes, so will all of the amazing Gamecube games, which will totally outweigh Xbox.

But Halo 2 is still good and you need to reconigze that.

Nintenod just needs to get off their ass and buy friggin rockstar and Square-Enix and Capcom and they willd estroy everything. And they could too, the GBA is pure profit gold mine.

>>   Not that Halo 2 won't sell well, but especially in the face of Halflife, I bet its sales slump. I'm willing to bet Mario 128 is our big 2004 title. <<

Yes HALF LIFE 2 is Xbox bound...... but it still won't put a single dent into HALO 2's sales. Halo is just THAT GREAT. Halo STILL outsells the majority of Gamecube game sales.... even recently released GC titles.

Can we possibly set our sights a bit higher than "Nintenod just needs to get off their ass and buy friggin rockstar" When Nintendo have already said they don't support the use of exploitative violence that Rockstar uses in GTA.

Edit & clarification / I do think it's entirely possible for Nintendo to make adult games and/or or driving games in the GTA style, but highly doubt any violence would be dumb exploitative stuff, it would be in the context of the game. The depiction of violence in itself is not a bad thing, in fact it is often necessary.

I don't reallylike GTA. Nut I want Nintendo to be first, because therefore they wilkl work harder to stay there, and mostly likely their production teams will expand and the games will come out faster than ever.

Whoops...well, sorry, but his post did come before yours and I had to say that Mario 64 outsold Mario Kart 64.

Entertainment Weekly did a chart on the top ten selling games from 1996 to present and Mario 64 came out on top.

If Nintendo did do that, a couple pennies would be left in their treasury.  You can't run a company on a few pennies.

Halo was awesome, and I expect Halo 2 will also be, but they're not as great as everyone tries to make em.  I've played a total of six-seven hours of it and had gotten bored of it by then (though I'd still play it with friends and stuff; I've played multiplayer, co-op, and single player for Halo, but it just sort of got dull).   I've played eighteen+ hours of Zelda, beat the final boss four times (maybe five), and I'm still itching for more.

As for the big title, I say Mario Kart.  And another game that's coming out is Kirby's Air Ride, which hasn't gotten much hype, but it looks cool and it's made by Hal Laboratories, same people that made both Smash Brothers and the N64 Kirby game (very fun game, in my opinion).

Stimutacs: You're asking for a bit- at elast in my opinion, Halo had a better storyline than 99% of other FPS's, whose "stories" are little more than excuses to shoot things.

I know, I was exagerating. But really, they could aquire one of those companies,e asily, and it would help them fathoms. Rockstar would win it fdor Nintendo, i dont like GTA much, but it is the trute that GTA is the number-one reason PS2 did so well, and probobaly the biggest system selling game around.

Story weak? First off Halo didn't really have a weak story, it had a pretty good one, especially for an FPS.

Next off... you do not need cut-scenes to tell a story. We're playing video games to interact (or at least... should be... I hope...) and I'd better not be reading or watching for even 5% (uh... rough estimate) of a game. If I want to watch I'll go see a movie. Not to assume you are complaining about Halo's storyline because of a lack of cut-scenes, but it wouldn't hurt to cover that just in case

The GTA series is just a fad. It's to this generation what Mortal Kombat was to the 16-bit generation.
People will eventually get sick of it. It won't have the kind of staying power games like Mario and Zelda have had. Nintendo is better off investing in something that will really help it in the long-term. Rockstar may be the holy-grail developer at the moment but so was Midway at a time and now it's regarded as one of the cr*ppiest developers in the world.
Rockstar may not have a fate quite as sad as Midway's but I think Nintendo's latest acquired developers, SK and Retro, will eventually do more for it than Rockstar ever could.

In 2004, no Gamecube game or Halo 2, will outsell the newest PS2 GTA game.  As for the big 2004 games for Xbox and Gamecube, I only see Halo 2 as the big Xbox game.  I think Fable will turn out to be a huge disappointment if it even comes out in 2004.  For Gamecube, the big 2004 titles will be:

Metroid Prime 2
Resident Evil 4
New Mario
New Zelda
Virtua Fighter Quest
Too Human

Isn't there some British company sopposedly making a bad ass FPS for Nintendo exclusively?

Anyways, GTA wasn't a fad, it was liked so much becuase it gave you a whole crap load of freedom. If they make another GTA, which they will, I want them to give even more freedom...where you can plan out what you want to do. For instance, you can decide to rob a bank, then find people who can get the job done and hire them.....or you can highjack an airplane, or whatever.

All I want from Halo 2 is more weapons and the ability to hold more weapons.....by the way the pistol is bad ass (#1 favorite weapon)

Ive played GTA: Vice City, and I must say I was rather disappointed. To me, it seemed to focus on the violent side of the game rather that actually making you do anything. It doesnt involve much skill to run around capping people. Thats my thoughts on it anyway.

As for the big game, I dont think it has been announced yet. Nintendo, no doubt, have a few titles up their sleeve that we dont know about. Realistic Zelda? All new Mario? New Smash Bros? Who knows.

As for GTA, I have the GTA3 (and 2...) on the PC and the mission are good and all, but what I really like is just driving around crazily (brings back memories of Midtown Madness) or doing Vigilante....which is just driving around crazily, except there is a target for you to chase

my complaint with the story was mainly the levels... i believe that the best level (the only one that really got me into the game) was the "Halo" level, since it was primarily outdoors.. after that i think that the game came down a notch .

in regards to the storyline, i actually did like it, but the cut scenes were annoying... but  my biggest complaint was the cramped indoor levels.. Master Chief's a bird, man, he needs to be free
I'll shut up now...

halo is a definite must buy game if you are an xbox owner. i dont have an xbox, but if i did, i would definitely buy it. as far as what nintendo will have next year against halo 2, i believe it will be either metroid prime 2 or resident evil 4.

Yeah, I guess I agree that Half-Life probably won't cause a slump in Halo2 sales, but I think it'll definately make the game look less impressive. Doom3 for that matter will make Halo 2 look like crap. I don't even know what people like about Halo, but it just seems like its gonna take an awful lot to make a really standout FPS this year. I don't play FPS's though, so I can't really say whats good and whats not. Time Splitters is more than fun enough for me.

Its a little too early to worry about Nintendo's 2004 titles. But I'm guessing the new Zelda, Mario, and some new series we know nothing about. The games that Nitnendo shows at this E3 will be out during the 2003 fiscal year which ends in March 2004. We will start to hear about what coming out before the next E3 by the end of this year. Nintendo isn't a company that look too far ahead. That hurts sales. (Remember them announcing the Gamecube early.)

Too Human may be out next year.

I think 2004 is too far off for us to start discussing what the big titles of that year will be.  Usually the big titles come out around Christmas and Christmas 2004 is over a year away.  There are tons of games that could be announced during that time.  Odds are the 2004 games of the year won't even be revealed in any serious way until E3 2004.

In May 2001 nobody was giving any realistic predictions for what titles would be big in 2002.  Nobody assumed GTA: Vice City would be the big seller of 2002 because it hadn't been announced yet and GTA 3 hadn't been released yet (and at the time wasn't even that hyped of a title).  For all we know something unexpected could become a huge hit this year and its sequel will be the big hit of 2004.  A Gamecube version of Warioware could be the big hit of 2004 for all we know.

Discussing 2003 makes more sense but even then I would wait until after E3.  There still are some surprise E3 games that could be big hits.  After E3 we'll all have a pretty good idea about what's coming out for each console for the year.
