I'm finally caught up in Breaking Bad. So, Jesse is a meth cooking slave now. Jeez, what else can the producers do to the poor guy with two episodes left? Personally, I think he'll get revenge on Meth Damon. I'm on the fence over whether Walt saves Jesse after what happened in the desert. There's a chance he'll find out Jesse is alive from Lydia (or just running into him while doing his Scarface thing).
I kind of want to see some atonement from Walt, in general, but especially regarding his relationship with Jesse and I think there's a chance there might be with the way "Ozymandias" played out and Walt kind of realizing just how far he's fallen (goodness, that phone call). While Jesse probably would have ended up dead eventually without Walt blackmailing him into cooking meth, it's a terrible shame what ended up happening and that Walt, of all people, was his mentor/father-figure. Even though Mike wasn't a model citizen by any stretch of the imagination, he was a better mentor than Walt ever was. Walt and Jesse's relationship is complicated to say the least. I think Walt genuinely cared about Jesse in his weird sociopathic way and felt especially betrayed by Jesse despite all the things he put Jesse through. Walt manipulated and used Jesse for his own ends, just like Walt manipulated and used everyone else. Sure, anyone who really cares about someone would never hurt them intentionally, but try telling that to a sociopath. That says more about how evil Walt has become and how conflicted the Walt and Heisenberg personalities are. On one hand, he desires to be the king who is rich, admired, and respected for his intelligence and cunning. On the other, he still wants to be a simple family man. He learned the hard way that Walter White cannot be both and now he is neither. At this point, Walt is well past the point of redemption as nothing can reconcile the sins he's committed, but I think there is room for some atonement. That's what he returned to Albuquerque for. Up to this point, I rooted for Walt because he's the protagonist even though he's a pretty shitty person and as a viewer, I can see through all his BS. In the final two episodes, I'm mainly rooting for some kind of atonement and I'm really not sure it's coming.
I haven't decided whether I think Lydia lives or dies though I'm leaning toward the latter just to tie up loose ends. It seems pretty obvious that the two flash-forwards in Season Five are probably leading up to Walt going full Heisenberg on Jack's gang of white supremacists, then again this show tends to be unpredictable so who knows at this point. I'm a little disappointed that white supremacist Nazis are the show's final villains because using Nazis as villains seems too easy for this show. Maybe the producers thought only Nazis can be more evil than Walt at this point so this is their last ditch effort to keep viewers on Walt's side for the final two episodes. Before watching any of the second half of Season Five I originally thought Walt would be trying to save Hank from Declan's gang. Boy, was I off...
