This is what the DSlite should have been. Imagine if this had been released in 2006 instead of the DSlite. Nintendo ended up being the handheld leader anyway, but if this had come out 3 years ago they probably would have knocked the PSP completely out of the market. A large part of the reason people buy PSPs is for the features that the DSi is offering, but didn't exist for the older DS (internet browsing, mp3 support, etc.)

I admit this is a great thing, but I feel that it is several years too late. 3 or even 2 years ago it would have made a huge difference, but now?

Nintendo is good with their portable gaming system...because they know portables are about inexpensive games on the go, not expensive console-light gaming. Portable gaming needs to take a completely different direction. Hopefully, this iteration of the DS will be able to last another 3 years...but that is the only weakness with Nintendo's approach.

Nintendo tries to keep their portable gaming systems alive too long, and only make minor changes. It worked for the Gameboy brand, and the Gamboy Advance...but each new portable family is getting a shorter and shorter lifespan. I just hope Nintendo isn't trying to extend the life of the system too far.

No. I just recently watched the movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth" with Brendan Fraser and the kid in it is playing a PSP, not a DS or a Gameboy. Now I bet if the DSi had come out in 2006 like it should he would have been playing a DSi.

... because, as we know, what products appear in movies has absolutely nothing to do with the large bags of money making their way between the product manufacturers and the movie studios...

I really cannot wait for this. The blue is so great.

The DSiWare outing look perfect from what I've seen, lots of cheap puzzle games! I saw that they are releasing Pyoro, and Pyoro is my favorite. Plus that katamari puzzle game based off of that pac man puzzle game, stellar.

I think it's neat that I could feasibly sit in class and download a game because I'm bored. That's great!

I got an invite through Club Nintendo to try out a DSi this coming Sunday. You want me to try anything or confirm whatever for you? The invite mentioned bringing games to see how they play (differently?) on the system. Any suggestions about what titles to try??

Okay I'm back from the DSi event. Pretty much there was about 10 people partitioned off to the side of the Gamestop and we all stood around playing with the DSi. I forgot my games so the only game I tried out was GTA and the touch screen feels cramped on the DS screen, but not on the DSi. It also has a better grip because of the matte it doesn't feel like the plastic DS shell. The speakers are very good we well, but still not great because of the sound in the store. The cameras are pretty nice, nicer than what I thought it would be. The controls are very intuitive, anyone can pick it up and get it going. I put an sd card into the game- funny I thought the slot cover was an actual hinged door, but it's actually a latch that you pull out. The system recognized my card immediately, but I access it was difficult and I couldn't figure out how to save to the card. The DSi is longer and slimmer than the DS, the buttons felt stiffer too. Overall it was a nice low key event, the DSi is pretty much what everyone's expecting. Oh and the online features were disabled so I couldn't try any of that out.
I was asked over the phone to not take pictures, but I got one pic of me holding the DSi

They gave me a card that will save me 100 bucks on the DSi if I trade in my old DS, but I preordered it at a different store. They printed out a pic of me that I took with the DSi and gave me a magnet frame with tinier magnets of DSi icons- finally I also got a DSi key holder the kind that goes around your neck.
Not bad for a Sunday!
