Yeah, it's not 2D, it only plays like it's 2D.

Looking at the screens I see a lot of the GBA GTA and that game was awful. While I'm sure that Rockstar is taking this game more seriously I will just wait until footage comes out before I come to a conclusion because I don't want to have memories of playing a game that couldn't be beaten because of a glitch.
My issue of NP still hasn't come yet :/

Agreed, reminds me of GTA GBA and GTA2 GBC. Two of the worst games ever made.

The screens weren't impressive, There's a reason Grand Theft Auto wasn't a hit until it went full 3D with GTAIII.

I don't know, I thought the screens made it look pretty good. I wanna see more. It's not completely top down, it's at a little bit of angle.

if that has to do with the drug dealing in the game, i can see where they're coming from but i'm still getting tired of the arguments:

group a. Its not intended for children, its rated M which means 17+

group b. Kids will get it anyway

group a. Well be a better parent and keep your kids from it.

groub b. Kids will get it anyway, regardless of what we do

group a. Parent your kids; teach them right from wrong

group b. Kids will get it and idealize it

I played the game today at Comic Con, and boy did I have fun with it. I played for like 32 minutes. What amazed me the most, was just how expansive the gameworld is...the environments. I did this weird jet ski type mission and my jaw dropped when I saw that you could swim in the water!

I badmouthed this game so much(even before playing it  :'(), but today I had to admit that I was wrong. Suddenly my Wii and DS are on fire in terms of titles that I want. This game is on my top 5 wanted DS games.

Yes I agree I think both Wii and DS are on fire, this could be a great year for both (I know I definitely am looking forward to far more Wii games this year then 360/PS3 COMBINED).

Do we have a price yet for this? It looks really neat. I was shocked when I first saw the art style graphics.
I'm going to guess that it will go for $35-40.

I got to play this at the NYC Comic Con and while I was really far away from any vital locations I was able to have enough fun. Playing it felt like I was playing GTA on the GBA again, but it had cleaner graphics and tighter controls. From what I understand the demo isn't the latest version so I'm expecting a really deep game to keep players busy for some months.
I wouldn't mind paying $35-40 since Square Enix is the only company to do pull this off on the DS. I always feel like I'm slightly being ripped off by paying much more for a game that has already been out for some time. For a full and original Grand Theft Auto, why not? I mean I wouldn't complain if it were less, but the price wouldn't make me question the merit of the purchase like a Square title usually does.

I would put World Ends w/ You and Chrono Trigger both worth the 40 bone price. But that's just me.
If this game ends up being as fun in the ends as it sounds, I would consider $35. Forty is a bit much though.

I was checking out the Chinatown Wars website and they've added a lot of great stuff to it. Namely the trailer which is only great because Ghostface Killah raps in it, but there is another video in what will likely be a series of gameplay videos. They've also got a link to an IGN interview with the Pres. of Rockstar Leeds talking about making the game. They've got comparison shots of Liberty City on consoles and the DS.
Also this quote, which is the reason that made me want to post about it: "We believe that a huge percentage of mature DS gamers have been starved of the depth that console gaming offers and set out to make the experience that they deserve." That's at the very beginning of the interview and I'm very glad someone's taking that approach with the DS and with Nintendo in general.

Apparently Sony is acting like the jealous ex towards rockstar now

Quote from: mtvmultiplayer
“No one should sleep on that franchise,” John Koller, Sony’s head of PSP hardware marketing in North America, told me in a phone interview yesterday. “That’s a tremendous franchise for PlayStation in general. We’ve had two that are the top two sellers on PSP right now. So, there’s definitely continued conversations with ['GTA' development studio] Rockstar on all their brands. That’s nothing that’s left the PlayStation family.”

Koller said he couldn’t recall when he found out that “GTA” was going to the DS after the PSP “Liberty City Stories” and “Vice City Stories,” but was composed about it. “To be honest, Rockstar has to manage their business as they see fit. We’re very good partners with them. They just launched ‘The Lost and the Damned‘ for 360, so, they need to make their own business decisions. But we certainly have a tremendous relationship with them and always have.”

Regarding “Chinatown Wars,” Koller doesn’t see it squarely matching with the DS fanbase, which the classifies as predominantly under 12 years of age. “It’s an interesting launch on DS,” Koller said. It raises some eyebrows in a lot of areas. It’ll be interesting to see how that sells.”

Remember that GTA's core audience is twelve years or older.  :P

And also Sony execs mostly talk with their heads in their asses. Hideo and Sony obviously make a good pair. They both lost theirs in seperate ways.

Cool! I already played it at comic con...it's pretty rad actually. I have about 80 stickers and stuff from the last time they came. It would be cool if they made a small LEGO model of the characters or something and gave that out. Are there any GTA related toys(I love toys)?
