Gaming on this LCD (Wii in particular)
« on: May 09, 2008, 10:31:37 PM »
The time has come for me to upgrade from my current 14" TV.  I'd really like a flat-screen CRT TV becuase honestly, I'm not completely sold on the image quality of LCDs, and I can get a bigger CRT screen for the money.  But I think I missed the boat on that one - I'm looking for a 22"+ TV, and I can't find any at major retailers (I want to purchase it somewhere where I can return it if need be even if I'm away at school) - if you know of any please let me know!

I finally have the money to get a new TV and since I'm apparently out of CRT options, I've looked into some LCDs, and I found a 32" Element for $480 (here, if you're interested: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Element-32-LCD-HDTV-FLX3220F/sem/rpsm/oid/192026/catOid/-12866/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do).  I am concerned about lag, though, particularly for Guitar Hero (and even N64 :P).  I've done some searching online and I've read the mailbags pertaining to this, but I am still a little confused.

The resolution on this TV is 720p.  I will be picking up a set of component cables for my Wii.  Since this is a lower-end TV, I am afraid lag will be even more apparent - but what are your opinions on this?  Has the technology come far enough that this lag is not such a big deal anymore?

I am bummed that I can't find a suitable SD (I do not have any HD sources) tube TV, and I will be even more bummed if my new TV renders my video games nearly unplayable.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or input.  The TV I picked out above is about the highest I am willing to go as far as price.

Thanks!

I've looked at this now. I can't seem to get any good reviews on it. It would have been nice to have had it on newegg.  Be interesting to know how ti compares to other models.  GREAT price though.

I have a 22" Westinghouse LCD for my PC (LCM-22w2). It's a couple years old and the speakers are crap, but there is absolutely zero lag with it. I paid about $280 last February, I don't think they make this model anymore, but there's a newer version at Best Buy and it costs even less. The one I have comes with DVI-D, VGA, S-Video, RCA, and Component input, so you're basically covered in every aspect there. I have one of my XBox 360s hooked up to it and have played GH2 and GH3, absolutely zero lag, once again.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA
