I am hoping for a special feature that allows us to save the music from the game to an MP3 file to take with you where ever you go.

One thing is certain I will be spending an entire afternoon recording the music from my TV into a digital recorder and creating a nice Nintendo music CD.

First of all this is the best update of the week by FAR.  SO now I understand why there is no orchestra.   You have roughly 40 something composers who are supposed to compose several songs.   Even if they did 1 song each it would be ridiculous amounts of money to get that all orchestrated.  My problem though is that this music to me sounds WORSE in midi quality than SSBM.  Seriously I remember playing that game and when I got to Kirby's dream fountain, I mistook it for an orchestra piece, even if it was for only a min.

Now when I started listening to these midis some have been hit or miss with me.  Too many of the songs though sound underpowered or not edgy enough to be a fighting song.  Perhaps a lot of them would song edgier if they had more realistic instrumentation.  Another thing I always thought was that perhaps these midi samples were just low quality and put on the site because they were either WIP or easier to load.  Looking at todays update though we have the main theme song to the game and its fully orchestrated and streaming in fairly decent quality.

Now don't get me wrong, I think this is my favorite update thus far but I guess it just popped my bubble about the quality of midi getting better.  Maybe I am far too critical being a musician for 16 years so perhaps I set the bar too high.

Love the update tho.

The pokemon song is really top notch. Although the evolution music sounds nice, it still kinda throws off the flow, to me at least. Regardless, great update.

Yeah, I can see the little chime being the cue for the stage change. I think that'd make the stage more fun. You hear the chime and think "uh-oh!" And the stage slowly changes.

So we think this may be when the ice or earth change could happen.  That is an interesting thought.  I like this idea.  The music changes with the stage.  That would actually be pretty awesome.

Here's a thought about the CD item.  Does anyone have an idea where they could pop up or how often?  Will it be in Adventure mode or in multiplayer or even in the mini games like the trophies did in Melee?  Is S_B going to get upset again because there's another type of item that needs to be collected?  Anyone have an idea?

Why didn't I find this topic earlier? Anyway......

I think that the collectable items will be scattered about just like in Melee. It will definately give some more incentive to play the other game modes (not that they have to worry about people not playing the other game modes). It would be a bit dull if EVERYTHING had to be unlocked through story mode. I do hope alternate options are available too, like how Mewtwo in Melee can be unlocked by playing 20 hours or 200 matches in VS mode, whichever came first.

Excellent update.

For all the people who want SD card Music:  You could always just turn the music off and have it played through something else.

As for the Pokemon Stadium music.  I'm sort of disappointed because I really enjoyed the organ type version they did in the original Pokemon Stadium.

I love this new feature, but I also hope that the only music with choir and orchestra isn't just the main theme.

I think we finally have justification for the midi music files.  It will allow potentially 100+ songs from all over the Nintendo universe.

If we think that each franchise will at least get 5 songs...probably more.  Can you imagine how much music is in this game.

Donkey Kong Series
Wario Ware
Metroid
Zelda
Fire Emblem
Earth Bound
Mario
Kirby
Pokemon
Animal Crossing

That is 50.

Now consider other options and you realize that this will have the most music of any Nintendo game series ever.

Makes you wonder how many CDs it would take to fill up the soundtrack, if that's ever all released.

On a side note, Ceric's post got me thinking that I actually hope the Melee music is reused here as another option. A lot of that music was excellent, and it would certainly be nice to have the option to pick it again from the MyMusic feature amongst all of the newly arranged stuff.

I think the number of songs per franchise will be based on the number of stages...For instance, there will be more Mario and Zelda tracks than Earthbound and WarioWare ones...(Ashley's Theme totally better be one of the few WarioWare ones!)

Bill:  Actually don't think that it is tied to the number of stages or number of characters from each series.

Think about it.  We saw AT LEAST 4 Zelda and 4 Mario songs.  I do not believe those are the only ones.  I believe it is more likely tied to how many memorable tunes they choose to include in the game...and could include one song from every game entry in the series or at least from each generation of consoles.

Judging by the scroll buttons, I think it's safe to say there are at least 5 Zelda and 6 Mario songs.

Obviously, but if there's only 1 WarioWare stage to say, 5 or 6 Mario-related stages, which do you think will have more music attached to it? =)

Back on the topic of Mario's down+B move, it just occurred to me that it would make sense for some characters to have a different special move in the air than they do on the ground.  For example, Peach's ability to pull vegetables out of the ground doesn't make sense in the air, and Yoshi's butt stomp first requires a jump when it's performed on the ground.  I don't think this is the case, considering that Sakurai has already posted evidence to the contrary.  Maybe we'll see it in Super Smash Bros. Riot.

Bill:  But If Wario Ware has 5 memorable great songs through the series of GBA, DS, Gamecube, and Wii games then they can have all 5 of those songs even if there is only one level.  But there may be 5 Mario Stages but only 8 Mario tunes because those are the memorable ones.

Obviously there will be more Mario and Zelda tunes and such than Wario Ware, all I am saying is I don't expect the corralation to be how many stages there are...but to how many great memorable songs there are to each series.

I reall do expect to see between 50-100 musical pieces in this game now.  Look at all the cool collectibles there were in Melee.  Brawl looks to be taking that to the next level and really reward those gamers that play this game for hours on end.  And you know songs could be added to play list...after all Midi files are pretty small and wouldn't take too much space to add that for wiiconnect functions.

I'm guessing that each level has its own, separate set of songs. So games with more stages will have more songs, but: a) the average number of songs per level will be fairly standard and b) the songs will not be interchangeable from level to level. That's just my hypothesis. We've only seen one stage per series at the moment, so I'm having trouble visualizing an example... but I think if there are 2 Mario stages, Delfino plaza will have maybe 7 songs (the ones in the screenshot and then some), and "Peach's Castle 3" (a level I just made up) will probably have 5 or 6 songs, like a remix of "Peach's Castle Theme" from Mario 64 or Paper Mario, and maybe the main theme from Super Princess Peach, etc. I don't think there'd be any overlap in the song choices between two Mario levels, either. My guess is that each level will have songs chosen and remixed to match that level, not just any song from the franchise.

We'll see if I'm right, though.

You know I am surprised no one points this out yet (or maybe someone did and I missed it):

Just so you know, there may be songs from other games that are left as is, without any new arrangement.

Arrangements and the possibly of the original versions of songs? Awesome. =D

I took that to mean the songs from Melee would be left unchanged, but you could be right too.

Someone refresh my memory: Did the Classic levels in melee have new music or were they the original SSB versions?

Not trying to be a jackass by possibly proving your hypothesis wrong, or get anyone's hopes up in the process, but quoted directly from the site (with my bold added for emphasis):

For songs you’re particularly fond of, you can increase the likelihood those songs will appear. Then, when you brawl on that stage, the chance of your preferred songs being played increases.
Of course, if you want to, you can limit a stage to only one song, or make every song in the game equally likely to appear.

After thinking about it though, there is still a pretty good possibility, in my assumption, that an option to read MP3s off of an SD card may still be in the game, I mean it just seems that everything else is going to be in SSBB anyway, including the proverbial kitchen sink.

Even though I had said earlier in this thread, regarding collections and the stickers with the possibility that trophies may still be in the game, that I fear that they may put too much into this game to collect, I think I may actually be turning towards the idea that I could/would really enjoy collecting everything this game has. Hell, I enjoyed getting all the trophies in SSBM twice (even that damned Crazy Hand trophy). I just thank God I do not have a girlfriend because come December third she would probably never hear from me again.
