Even though I'm late I still have to say it, GREATEST UPDATE EVER!!!

Quote

Not trying to be a jackass by possibly proving your hypothesis wrong, or get anyone's hopes up in the process, but quoted directly from the site (with my bold added for emphasis):

For songs you’re particularly fond of, you can increase the likelihood those songs will appear. Then, when you brawl on that stage, the chance of your preferred songs being played increases.
Of course, if you want to, you can limit a stage to only one song, or make every song in the game equally likely to appear.

Actually, the bold part makes it sound like there's just an option to allow every song to just randomly play when you start a stage, similar to how when your in tournament mode you can set all stages on random and make it that any computer opponents will be on a random level.  The rest of Sakurai's quote points heavily at each stage having a different selection of tracks to choose from like LuigiHann said.

Plus people have to remember that it isn't hard for this game to have a lot of music.  They have around 40 different composers doing the music for this game.  If each of these guys does 3 songs that's already over 120 tracks.  Now I'm not saying they'll all do 3, but I'm sure some of these composers might do around 5 while others might do only 1 - 2.  Either way it's safe to assume Brawl will have a HUGE amount of music and there's no reason to believe otherwise when this game has a TON of famous composers doing the soundtrack.

I'd imagine each stage having it's own unique selection of music wouldn't be that hard to do when Sakurai has his own army of musicians under his command.
I’m gonna have you play every inch of this game! - Masahiro Sakurai

Look at it like this there will be at least 40 brand new arrangements, and then all the retro unchanged music could just be dropped in with little to no work at all.  so over 100 songs is more than likely.  If each of the composers did 2 songs each that would be 80 with Retro songs.  Lets just say this game is going to be one big gigantic love for Nintendo.  It doesn't matter if you like the series or not, you are going to want this game.

I think each stage will have its own "native tracks", as the pictures showed that Bridge of Eldin had all Zelda tracks, and Delfino Plaza's were all Mario tracks, and that those would be the default rotation for that stage's BGM. However, I think you could probably choose to have it cycle through songs from other stages as well, if you choose. Of course, this is all guesswork.

Minor point, interesting that the "Play" caption over the selected track in the pictures is of the Cube A-button, which definately shows he's considering that the default at this point, and the extra Wii Remote options tertiary. Not that I mind at all.

It is impossible that Gamecube is the default. Since tons of people will turn it on for the first time without a Gamecube controller connected, they're not going to get a prompt to connect a Cube controller they might not even have to navigate the menus.

The closest thing would be "default" if it is plugged in the first time you turn it on. Though that seems like it would be pointless since this would only take effect if you had no save file. Since after that it would likely be configured to whatever you set in your profile options by default. Whoever takes the screen shots is just a Gamecube controller type of person.

Maybe the on screen buttons are determined by what the first player is using, kind of like RE4 for the Wii, different prompts for the Classic Controller and Wiimote (and maybe the GCN controller, but I think it just used the same prompts as the Classic controller).

Bull. Most of the people who buy Brawl will be people who bought and enjoyed Melee, and they will almost ALL have a Gamecube controller connected the first time they play.

Bull to you, Dirk.  I've been playing Melee heavily since 2001 when it first released, and I'd say I'm as hardcore about Smash Bros. as the rest of the Smash Bros. community...  BUT...

...I WILL NOT be playing Brawl with my GameCube controller.  It's Nunchuk+Remote for me -- that's the only way.

Well he did say almost all

It all comes down to personal preference though, everyone, regardless of their play time with the series (got the original and melee on the first day and I can't really see myself playing with the wiimote set up).

Different strokes for different folks.

Personally... I will be playing the game with both the Wavebird and Wiimote. I will then make up my mind from which I like better after some extensive play and continue to use that. I see no reason to decide to limit myself at this point in time without actually playing Brawl with both for myself.

I meant more cause Wii is so much more popular than Gamecube. There are a lot of people who own a Wii who never owned a Gamecube.

Now how many of them will buy SSBB? Hard to say, but I think if Nintendo plays their cards right, this is a game they can easially get the new fans hooked on. Maybe not the old ladies, but the normal people who haven't played Nintendo games since the 80s/early 90s.

I recently bought 2 extra Gamecube controllers just for this game. I now have to 2 Wavebirds and 2 wired controllers. I'm not a fan of the Classic Controller though I'll try it for this game if the opportunity arises. Of course, all this could have easily been avoided if the Wii remote had more face buttons in place of the solitary A........

I will be playing with Wiimote Nunchuk first to see how the controls are...and if I don't like the controls then I will go to the classic controller.  I don't really want to play the game with the Gamecube controller though, because I have already experienced that.

And I think that most people will start the game with the Wiimote nunchuk....because it is a freaking Wii game.  Most people buying the game will want to try out the Wii controls if they are used to Smash Bros.  And if they are not then they will be starting a new Wii game up like they always do Wiimote and Nunchuk.

Wavebirds don't eat batteries like Wiimotes do and the game is geared toward a standard control scheme so I'd have to lean towards wavebirds, yeah.

Hope they announce a new character tonight. It's been too long...

Defeating Nintendos goal of a simple controller for the every-man.

Adding 3 buttons wouldn't change that though. Motion controls are pretty straight forward and games for the every-man almost exclusively use motion controls.

I've noticed that developers of traditional games on Wii tend to make compromises when it comes to controls. The controls still work very well in many cases, but I can't help thinking that the controls could be just a little better if the devs had an extra button to work with.

I probably wouldn't have bothered buying extra Gamecube controllers if the Wii remote and nunchuck had buttons to mimic the configuration on a Gamecube controller (minus C-stick Smash moves).

Maybe if you're just looking at the controller and even then, the Wii remote would still look like a remote and most television remote, for example, have far more buttons anyway. More importantly, the hook is that people who normally don't play videogames become interested by watching other people play. They're not looking at buttons (mostly because they can't see the buttons), they're looking at someone swinging around a white thing that doesn't look like a normal or daunting controller. And isn't that Nintendo's whole approach? Isn't that the reason for the Wii Experience vids and the "Wii would like to play" commercials showing people playing?

Having more buttons just makes it easier for traditional games to be made for Wii. I think the more hesitant devs would be more willing to accept Wii if they didn't feel they had to compromise due to fewer buttons. One could say that that would make devs lazy by not forcing them to think around the remote's motion capabilities, but I think the opposite it true. They'd experiment with it because it's available yet don't feel forced to use it. It's kind of like the DS. No one absolutely had to use the touch screen or microphone, but 3rd parties nowadays normally do.
