I think it goes without saying that Ivysaur is awesome. I think my bias for the Bulbasaur chain is blinding me there, though... still very, very excited about the Pokémon Trainer, and happy to see the Vine Whip being utilized:

On the other hand... bullet seed seems to be a very limited move in terms of use. Squirtle also looks very fun just with Waterfall and Withdraw... hell, especially with Withdraw.

Anyone notice that both Squirtle and Charizard knew an HM move?  I'm willing to bet Ivysaur's side B is an HM.  Would it be cut, flash, or defog?  I'm going to guess cut.

Squirtle had an HM of his type and a level-up move, while Venusaur had two level-up moves, and Charizard had a level-up move and an HM move.  Charizard's remaining attack will be his Up B, so it could be a level-up flying type move.  Squirtle's will probably be Water Gun, the far long distance attack of the trio.

Actually, Bullet Seed is a TM move for Ivysaur.

Ivysaur will probably have razor leaf as his side special. I know that makes most of his attacks long range, but hey, who cares?

I find Charizard's side+B move funny.  He breaks rocks with his head.  What is that supposed to do other than give him a headache?

This new update makes me wonder if Mario's cape may be used for more then just reflecting things, especially because of the up and down motion.

Hmmmm, an interesting addition...But I really don't see it being much use on a small stage, so I'm hoping this is confirmation of some Hyrule Temple-esque ones... =D

You need your second jump to perform this so you couldn't use it in every recovery situation.  ie: it should be abusive to other players

This ability is pretty freaking awesome.  You can use it to recover much easier from Long Smashes...and if you can cancel out of it you could still potentially use your Up Special to recover as well.

I think this is one of those additional skills that really start helping deversify the characters and their abilities better.  I am glad to see it in the game.

Sounds like it controls alot like the wing cap from Mario 64. Also, very awesome that it doesnt take up the up B move.

I think this definitely means we will see either the cape or the wing cap (or possibly something Galaxy related) for Mario.

Pale:  You know that would be a cool power.  A Feather Cape that allowed your character to glide...though it will be odd to see Bowser gliding in any way shape or form.

I personally hope Mario loses the Side Special Cape and is granted some other power, because that was pretty boring in my opinion...I want something different.

Are you kidding?  The cape was my favorite Mario attack!  Mario Tornado was the only move he had that seemed pretty useless in Melee.  I loved the cape attack!

will the game let you use your Down+B move if your character is sent flying from an attack? if so it'll be awkward if your Squirtle gets sent across the screen and you have a chance to use Pokemon Change (down+B) in mid air to switch to Ivysaur.. only because im assuming the pokemon will be swapt from where it is on screen at the time of the move.

im not sure if my wording makes sense so i'll say it this way: picture the Zelda - Sheik animation, if you're falling you can change to sheik, and it looks normal because Zeldas character is changing. For the pokemon trainer to swap one pokemon while in midair and send out the next in its exact place (picture falling of the stage) would just look stupid... i dunno, its just my opinion.

i know we havent been shown what the move looks like but im assuming there will be an animation of the trainer holding out a pokeball and zapping the current character out for a new one (after all, they put him in the background for a reason, he's not just gonna stand there jingling his change like the guys in street fighter II). With that assumption, it'll  just look stupid for the trainer to switch a pokemon just to let it fall to its death. i know, i know, it would unbalance the game if the new pokemon would appear automatically on the level itself, im just saying it LOOKS really dumb.. oh well.

also, while on the subject of the trainer.. him being in the background might explains a bit why so far all the levels we've seen have been platforms floating in front of scenery. it would be akward to have him on the platforms in Pit's stage and have the level crumble before his feet. then again we dont know if he's stationary or not.. what about moving levels like the return of an f-zero grandprix, or Delfino plaza? maybe he will be on the platforms with you and in stages like Pits or the bridge of eldin he'll have animations that move him around so he doesnt fall off the level.. who knows?

it would be pretty funny if the trainer is either on the bridge of one of the other destructible platforms, falls thru and dies...

kinda like what Pap linked to on the previous page

edit: this whole post is probably better off int he character discussion thread.. which i havent read a single page of because i'd rather look in one thread for smash talk (bring back the megathread!).. hell it might of already been discussed in there so i wont bother reposting it.

With this gliding update it might give us some insight on who some of the other playable characters might be.  It seems like there's a good chance at least one of the hidden character will be someone who can fly as well.

The two most obvious Nintendo characters that come to my mind are Ridley and Ballon Fighter but I know there's more.  If we can find out who they all are, chances are one of them will appear since I doubt Pit, Meta Knight and Charizard will be the only characters that can glide in the end.

I think that the WarioWare stage will be my favorite for the sheer lunacy of it.
