I believe it was brought up earlier, but it's from Ninty's Japan-only  DS Cooking Navi game...

It really is a bit too slow-paced for Brawl, but it'd still be rad if they included it (with the poor GBA-ish sound quality intact!)

Um no.  That version has such a personality problem.  You've got a totally dead pan girl who has a theme song of someone confident which is really to slow.
I like the new version much better.

Anyways, Thanks Bill for the music.  I'm sure the theme eventually grows on you.

I hope the Cooking Navi DS song will still be used for Kirby's Final Smash in the other versions.  It's such a great tune that really fits Cook Kirby.  It'd be a shame if they only leave it in the Japanese version.

I'm still hoping we can switch over to the Japanese version in game, ala Melee.

I said this earlier, but I'll say it again: Unless stated otherwise, I believe that this version of Ashley's theme is being performed by Mona. It makes sense.

THAT'S the point of the original song! Ashley is basically a quiet, deadpan gothic witch. If you see her cutscenes in "Touched" and "Smooth moves" you'll see that she always has a straight face and doesn't show any personality. So if the song is a little "dead" that because its how her character is.

I still love the new remix, but it IS very cheery in comparison to the old one.

Well the singer said otherwise, if you read her post about doing the song... as she stated she was doing the voice of the little "teenage, goth, witch" and that it was "really fun creating her voice just from a description of her character on paper".

Well, that's dumb. She certainly took the character in a different direction. I don't really care either way, though. I'm still going to pretend it's Mona, because that fits better.

It's a good song anyway.

This arguing over whether or not this remix retains the mood of the original is pointless.  The whole point of the music in Brawl is for musicians to have some fun reimagining some of their favorite tunes.  It's not like all the music in Melee perfectly kept the mood of the source songs, either.  Brinstar, for example.

Wait, what? I think the majority who are complaining are arguing over the fact that the singer, portraying a character, has just given Ashley a totally different portrayal from what one would have expected (or in my case, I simply don't like the Disney-portrayal with how it gels with the melody). The music itself, ie the karaoke version, doesn't seem to be getting much criticism.

I really think that how the character is portrayed in the remix fit better with the words of the song and even how the original is done.  I don't think the song itself, even the original, really fit with how you guys are telling me the character is.  Maybe a song about her where she didn't really participate in and just made totally dead pan comments out of the blue or trying to get rid of the singers.  I'm going to go YouTube Diving and see if I can find some videos.

*shrugs* To me the vocals are just another aspect of the song's aesthetic rather than necessarily a portrayal of the character.

Ashley voice it too upbeat/old/sound like an American idol singer and not enough creepy 8yr goth witch. The rest is awesome as in the jap version, while beside the fact you can't speed it up to make her say "I granted kids to hell, OH NO!" but that would be getting picky:p

YouTube of Ashley with the Original Song

The original is practically unintelligible - new one seems fine for what it is.  Personally I don't care for the voice b/c then it's not really good BGM, with the characters on screen having their own grunts and voices, not to mention other sound effects.

That should include not making them suck.

I think out of all of these, I actually like the KK Rider and Pokemans themes. Kinda sad, really...

I also agree with this.

The vocals will probably be pretty subdued in the actual game so the end result will be that they'll be washed over by a cascade of grunts and crashing noises, which basically defeats the purpose of having lyrics in the first place.

I'd rather be overcritical than too forgiving.

But in all seriousness, it just doesn't sound good to my ear.

To be fair, I thought the Zelda and Kid Icarus mixes were decent.

I just think they could have done something so much cooler AND more fitting of the character with this theme.

Like I said earlier, I'm not going to get on people's cases for music tastes as they vary too much to ever be predictable.

Well only really liking two of the songs and only finding another two to be "decent" is pretty harsh!  I'm not really sure what you are looking for but I'm sure there will be tracks that you will like in the dozens of musics tracks that will be in the game!  Hopefully...

Truth to be told, I think Melee has a much superior soundtrack. I think Brawl could suffer from the "too many cooks" syndrome.

Like S_B I only like a handful of the Brawl songs. Many of them are 'blah' IMO.

Well I think this is a poor analogy, because that problem arises when you have a bunch of people working on the same thing...Music tracks are pretty much individual pieces (in this case that reflect each individual composer) that are independent from each other...
