In such a market you kill others by starving them, i.e. absorbing their userbase, not by direct attacks. Even if you aren't seeing someone as the #1 threat you should do your best to destroy them because it leaves you with more profit.

You know ironically enough I know a good number of people that would get a PS3 and only use a feature like described above.  Not even get any games for it.  If they can pull off all that and keep it updated, for free, I be impress.  (Especially if I could play Backgammon with people... Shoot just inlist Yahoo! Games and put all of those in there.)

These are all good moves.  Copycat moves, but good moves.

One thing I'm not so sure about: requiring all developers to integrate the Pii stuff into their games.  I'm not sure what they mean by this, maybe only achievements are required, but in general, more requirements for devs =  more budget for games.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Settling with Immersion doesn't necessarily mean Sony will release a new rumble enabled Sixaxis. I believe Immersion wanted Sony to stop manufacturing controllers that infringed on their their patented technology. Sony was able to suspend that order pending appeals. So they finally gave in. What did everyone expect them to do? They still make $$$ on PS2 and you can't sell one without a controller. It probably would have cost more money to redesign the Dual Shock 2 without rumble than just settle with Immersion.

I don't think this really affects PS3 at all. Sony will likely stick to their guns and keep Sixaxis rumble free. Imagine how much money that would cost to not only commision Immersion to create a tilt and rumble capable controller, but to pay up for the license as well. Rumble is nice and all, but I don't think it's really worth the trouble for Sony to implement it into their controllers now.

As for the Mii/Achievement copying, it's not exactly the same and it doesn't change the fact that you still have to pony up $600. Seems like a fun feature, but it still doesn't justify anything, price and otherwise. You can get mad about Sony's lack of originality or you can sip some lemonade, make a Mii or two, and be content that you spent considerably less while having just as much fun (or possibly more).

I sais it when Sony announced the SIXAXIS and I'll say it again now.

Most people aren't going to realize that Sony is copying this from MS and Nintendo. If they own a 360 they might see the correlation between the achievements and trophies, and if they own a Wii (or watch T.V) or watch T.V they might see the Mii clones as just that but either of those things viewed seperately seems like Sony made a vast improvement on the original idea rather than just combine the two (or 3 in the case of the house decorating being taken from Animal Crossing ).

This wroks highly to Sony's advantage. I actually won a $20 bet with a friend because he thought Sony had the SIXAXIS before the Wii-Mote.

Thankfully though he's now like me and searching for a Wii to buy.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Ya know, the one great thing about Miis is that anyone can pick it up and do it. Just hand someone the remote and they can figure it out.

Sure, Sony might have better looking ones but you're gonna have to go through 100 steps to do it.

I eventually gave up making Sims in Sims 2. It got too complicated, too life-like, too many meaningless or seemingly meaningless sliders, and I simply never got anything that made me happy. Sliders are NOT the way to the future of character customization.

How do you know there not? They can't divulge information just yet, but that doesn't mean the information isn't there.

To me it is just extremely unethical to do something like this. It really isn't that hard to find creative people and hire them to do new creative things for your system. Even though this is blatant copying, I'm sure Nintendo and/or MS have no legal venues to give Sony a Cease and Desist on this project. It's too bad that Sony is constantly stealing Nintendo's ideas and they can't do anything to stop it.

I fear the same thing MaryJane mentioned; people won't see this as a rip off they will see it as a fantastic idea because they have no frame of reference. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it plays out, I just hope Sony takes a public beating for it when it comes to fruition, and is as similar to other products as it sounds.

I don't know if you watched the trailer or not, but it does look pretty. It's basically the Sims though.

The one thing they I noticed is that they said it's a service free of charge, but when they started talking about additional clothing and furniture for your "apartment" they just said "available for download". 20 bucks, says they charge ya for it.

It is pretty neat, but I doubt it's going to be 100% free. Sony will find ways to charge you however they can.

After watching the trailer, I gotta say, it's pretty damn neat even though it's an obvious rip off of Miis, Achievements, and Second Life.

The service will most likely be free of charge, but it will definitely have DLC.

Let's see how Nintendo and Microsoft responds to this.

It looks like a updated version of Second Life.

I don't think your going to have a lot of people using it, Its cute but not something the PS3 demographic is going to use. Might hook a few more Japan users but its not going to be a system seller feature.

Also I think one of the nice features with the Xbox Achievements is that you can see them online and you don't need to be on a Xbox to see them. I wonder if Sony is going to do this too?

Let me guess, none of the avatar molding/dressing options are meant to be unattractive/overweight/unflattering (besides inherently) am I right?  Just electronic Barbie/Ken dolls?

Will I get to use them in the next MGS or GTA?

Will I get to use them in Killzone?

Will they be tied to some MySpace page so that we can see how the real world and the PS Home world totally lie to each other?

Do I have to buy a PS3 to experience this? OH SH!T $600!

What are the parental controls like?

Can there be parties of online sex offenders in the middle of these virtual lobbies?

I... hate to say it too, but this is pretty cool.  Not nearly as derivative as it sounded when the first rumblings of it surfaced (get it? rumblings?!)

Very Neuromancer.  I hope when you go to your friend's place and he's playing a game, he's sitting there jacked in.

I do agree with Cap though, unless they give you a really compelling reason to hang out there, it has the potential to be completely barren.

Yeah, LittleBigPlanet has actually gotten my interest.

As for Home, saying it was anything like Miis was kind of silly.  It looks far more like Second Life to me.  Considering there aren't a lot of things like this on consoles, it could have an effect similar to Halo-- offering something that console players feel is new even though more hardcore gamers don't see anything special about it.

Unlike, say, The Sims, in which furniture is laid out on a grid, you can arrange your surroundings however you like - even if it's stacking your trendy new chairs haphazardly in a corner by literally throwing them at the wall

Ahahahahaha best game. Create a home, destroy it, and start over.

Wait, its not the Sims? Damn, gonna have to figure out a new way to burn things.
