I am definitely keeping my Gamecube, and everything I bought with it.  For sentimental reasons, mostly, but so I can play on it once and a while, too.  I've never traded in or sold anything Nintendo-related I've ever bought.

I'm keeping my GC only because I am buying the Wii only to play Wii games and VC games, and I don't want controller cables coming out of a system that has 'wireless' as one of its main features.

There's no gaurantee that the Wii will be perfectly backwards compatable with  Gamecube games.  Just like the PS2 with PS1 games.  Lastly for anyone who has a job selling their gamecube is not going to get them very much money.

I'm not concerned. The Wii is basically an amped up Gamecube, I can't imagine the backwards compatibility will be limited in any way.
Plus we already know it's compatible with Wavebirds and the Kongas and Dance Pad accessories.
The only practical reasons I can think of to keep the Gamecube is if you're REALLY attached to your Gameboy Player or play A LOT of Mario Kart over LAN or Phantasy Star Online.

Hmmm, Don't think i'd sell my cube. Again, space is an issue. I have my Tv, Gamecube, PS2 (and soon a wii) all balanced on a bedside cabinet so i'm not sure how i'm gonna make it work lol. Will Nintendo bring out Wireless GC controllers to play GC games? plugging in GC controllers into the top of the wii looks ugly as heck!

They did. It's called the Wavebird.

EDIT: Unless you mean fully wireless (no receptor)..

Can the wavebird receptor fit on the Wii?  I don't remember if anyone ever actually had a chance to check.

Why not? Maybe they won't fit if you tried to plug 4 in side-by-side, but the GameCube ports on the Wii are spaced out the same way as the original, right?

I remember someone (Perrin? MattC?) saying that it'd fit. The flap should open up enough to work it in.

My Cube stays, as I pimped it with a region switch and blue/green LEDs, plus GameBoy Player and LAN. It doesn't take much space, and I just like the little guy.

After having to re-purchase an NES and N64 after getting rid of them, only to realize that I wanted them back, I decided not to sell my systems ever again. I am one of those people who can get sentimentally attached to any little thing. Even though the Wii is backward-compatible, I couldn't rid myself of that trusty purple cube.

Edit: Plus I will probably keep my Wii upright, and I don't want any cables to attach to the top of the system and possibly pull it over.
Thanks for listening.

One thing that's going to be interesting is that while there isn't much incentive to keep a Cube around (aside from the GB Player) there is incentive to keep all of your controllers to ensure maximum Cube compatibility on the Wii.  So I wonder if we're going to see a glut of used Cubes that come with no controllers.

I'm still waiting to hear if the Classic controller will officially work on Cube games or not.  If that's the case, I don't intend on using the Cube controllers on Wii.

I will however, move my cube plust gameboy player upstairs so I can play in bed.  =P
