Hmm how about a Wii Snowball fight where you could set up a base made of snow and launch snow like crazy!  Or water balloon fight in a city street like that 360 commercial.

I won't fault them for not having Face Mapping.  I will fault them on not having different clothes or different color pants.

That would be cool.  With Nerf, you could have weapon pickups.  All the fun of pistols, shotguns, and sniper rifles, but with safe, family-friendly foam darts and suction cups.

You could also do that with Super Soaker.  Then the "substantial pumping" could be done with the Nunch[aku|uc?k].

Nerf already had an arena shooter. Nerf Arena Blast was derived from Unreal Tournament. I liked it but apparently most people don't.

i've basically had a mii character for years now. I originally designed him by hand in flash, then i found that cool avatar generator website and used that. Mii is basically the same thign as that avatar generator website...just in 3d and your Mii does things with your Wii

Mii Olympics would be great as an online game.  Really fun simple gameplay.

The only thing is Wii Sports could easily fill that gap for simple sports games.

Can you imagine if Nintendo got the olympics license? Hmmm....

This makes sense because moving the olympics into a realistic standpoint is ridiculously difficult since it's practically forced into a mini-game set-up. Too many art assets. Better to make it friendly and fun and develop it cheaper and sell it cheaper for a mass market.

Oh, with that comment I figured you linked to some article summarizing a lawsuit against students who used pictures of their teachers for the enemies in Doom. I don't like giving page views to IGN just to see where the link leads to.

I really like the Nerf idea...but that can't be done.  Perhaps a generic "nerf like" guns and battle system would still be managable.  What I like about Nerf is that each gun has strange quirks you could build into aiming and the balance of weapons.  As well ammo is very limited...as in most guns only hold like 6 shots each, yet the strategy of picking up balls and darts shot on the field and reloading on the fly would be awesome.  Also the idea that ammo is limited, and if too many people are using the same weapon it might be better to switch to another weapon.

The game could have 3 weapon types.  Darts, Missles, and Balls.  Other consideration could be Waterballoons for grenades.  The game could be call.  Mii Backyard Wars.

Spak-Spang: That would be interesting simply because limited ammo is a large part of the gameplay in Nerf. (Ex. if you are low on darts you want to trick your enemy into shooting at you so you can pick up the ammo.) I know when I play with my friends, we always lose a lot of ammo and towards the end we have games where most people do not have much ammo past enough to load their weapons. I wonder if there is a Half Life [2]/other FPS mod like that...

Exactly.  I am tired of the FPSers and such being all the same.  Even if they add to the gameplay and experience, it is either real World type play, futuristic war, or historic.  Something unique and playful would be a nice change.

And you can create some crazy an fun levels.  Different house designs, forts, backyards/neighborhoods, and so on.

Meaning it's either set in the present, the past, or the future?

But seriously, I like the idea of a truly wacky fps. My version would have absolutely no weapons that did damage. Instead, they would do things like reverse gravity, cause you to exchange places with people, reflect other attacks, shove people backwards, make people attract nearby objects, etc. Your starting weapon would be: nothing but your hands, which you could use to throw things at people. The idea would be to use cleverness and the level itself in order to kill people.

Somewhat OT: did anyone ever play the Wheel of Time game? It's only now, looking back on it, that I realize how innovative and unusual it was as a concept. I think something like it on the Wii, using gesture-recognition rather than 40 tabbed weapons, could be a major success.

Zakkiel:  I understand what you mean...but you have to admit you understand what I mean.

Pretty much all FPSers are becoming the same with a few key exceptions.

1)Vehicle combat is now standard
2)Weapons are always the same.  Rockets, Guns, Knives, ect.
3)The exact same game modes.

In the end, modern FPSers are judged by the quality of team combat, and online gaming...and the feel of the weapons and movement in the 3D arena.

I do like your idea for a wacky combat game.  It is almost a game of traps rather than war which is pretty cool.

The thing about using Toys is the game becomes non violent, and can attract all age groups.  At the same time, using toys also brings a very different unique kind of physics for the game.  A good physics engine would have to be created for the balls, darts, and missle attacks.  In away the game could feel like playing Worms in a FPS environment.

You could open up the battles to be won by judgements not just by hitting people.  And including a few water gun weapons could be fun too.  Specially when you consider you have to pump air pressure for some guns to work, and refilling takes more time.

I was reminded of this topic when I read this:
Nerf-based WiiPointer?

That seems to refer to a cushy WiiPointer rather than anything else, but still.  Though I wonder how well a third-party WiiPointer would work...

That's a really cool idea!  I don't know what Nintendo's policy is, but if I were in Nintendo's shoes, I'd give these guys the specs for the pointer part of the controller for the LARGE, DELICIOUS liscencing fees.  This Nerf product obviously isn't targetting the traditional Wii controller market anyway.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Back on topic, I recall one of those Nintendo interviews a few days ago (don't have the link at the moment) where someone mentioned that some Miis you create could be found as random spectators in WiiSports.  So they've already got some ideas about taking your Miis and sticking them in games just for the fun of it.

To that end, I may make a whole bunch of Miis even if they don't represent real people that would be playing Wii games.  Like celebrities, fictional characters, etc.  Though I guess it's limited in that they don't have clothing options.  Shucks.  You can't have ninjas and pirates if you don't have ninja hoods or pirate hats.  >_<  But maybe Samuel L. Jackson will be in my Mii Square after all.

I really like the idea of Miis from other people popping up everywhere.  You know some people are going to go crazy and make Miis of every celebrity they can.  It will be cool to see different people pop up in your games.  I can't wait to see what Wii Sports 2 brings and other Wii titles bring as well to the table.
