not really metal related, but everyone should listen some OSTs made by Kaijura Yuki (and the Gundam SEED/Destiny ones), they are simply amazing....if you could listen only one, I'd recommend "A Song of Storm and Fire" of Tsubasa Chronicle OST1....that one is simply breathtaking....

and responfing to easycure, I've played the keyboards for many years, but never played in a band nor professionally (not interested really, plus I lack the composing gift )

I try and play guitar.

Bustin98 do you like the new look INXS? (The words 'new' and 'INXS' don't really fit considering they're mostly 50 year old men)

There are still some great new rock bands today, a few of them. Like Wolfmother. Red Hot Chili Peppers new album is also their best one yet.

There's still nothing these days like Hendrix / Led Zeppelin / Queen though. ACDC, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Supertramp, those are some incredible rock bands as well. Pretty much 80% of my music collection now is rock.

INXS will never be the same without Michael Hutchence.

I haven't heard anything new from them. I've seen commercials for some TV show, but I don't watch TV very much. I suppose they could still be good, but they'll lack the sound that I found so appealing.

yes to every single one of those bands well...i never got into the foo fighters that much, a few songs (usually singles) are ok but i never gave an album a shot, but maybe i should.

"Dead kennedy's are a good punk band. Ever heard of the Casualties?"

and baltron87 yes, i have actually. in fact i know the singer Jorge. he's been a good friend of my brother for years and he's come over to my house and played super nintendo with us way back in the day . he got us back stage at warped tour like two years ago and we hung out and took pix. the whole band is awesome really, and so is their music. via la casualties army! lol

oh and to answer my own question if anyone is interested: i play guitar and bass. trying to learn drums but its hard cuz i cant fit a set into my apt. i'd love to get better though, for now i can keep simple beats. fun work out too. sadly, never been in a band .

Do you think it is better to have rock or orchestrated music in games?
OPINIONS?

rock examples: godsmack in prince of persia: warrior within, a lot in tony hawk games.

I have a soundtrack on my XBox that is nothing but 80's and I drive Burnout to it all the time. Even though there is a punk soundtrack already on it, I get tired of the same songs all the time.

But some games deserve a rockin' soundtrack, others do not. Can you imagine Mario with Megadeth or Korn?

depends a LOT on the game....

for example, Tony Hawk and Orchestra music don't seems to mix :?.....

still, I'd prefer Metal+Orchestra

On racing and fighting games i tend to turn the volume down and bust out the metal and rock.

tony hawk + orchestrated music= funny

"Do you think it is better to have rock or orchestrated music in games?"

I prefer original music for games.  It doesn't really matter what style it is provided it fits.  The only time I like licenced music is for games like Tony Hawk where it really makes sense.  It makes sense to skateboard to music that skateboarders listen to.  But when licenced music is just there for the sake of having it it sucks.  I remember renting NHL Hitz and although it is a really fun game I would never buy it because of the annoying Limp Bizkit music in it.  In my mind that doesn't fit because when I think of hockey I think more of organ music and the Hockey Night in Canada theme.

Plus it's easier to get bored of licenced music.  An original score lends itself better to the amount of repetition involved with playing games.

I'm currently playing Warrior Within on my GameCube (I borrowed it from a friend).  Never in my life have I wanted to rip out my own ears more than while playing this game.  If I ever hear that goddamn Godsmack song again I swear I'll kill someone.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yeah, me too Vudu. At first it is a little cool, then it just goes over and over, and over, and over, and over again; till it wears your ears down into dust. It even played in FREAKIN slow parts!!!!!!!! It alone made me stop playing.

sidenote: the two thrones is much better.

The only rock I like in videogames is a screeching electric guitar playing Big Blue and other F-Zero tunes. F-Zero GX was a major let-down in this department.

WWE Day of Reckoning really overdid the liscensed music as well.  I think liscensed music works fine for that game, but I spent hours in character creation mode (unfortunately the best part of the game) and it doesn't take long for the game's short and very loud playlist to get annoying.  They should have come up with something more laid-back for character creation.  The Sims has a bland song for home creation, and while it might not be a a very good song, it doesn't get stuck in your head and grate on your last nerve.

I prefer original music, though.  I personally thought Burnout 2 made amazing use of its original soundtrack - everything pumps up when you're boosting, and it really builds up the intensity.

In general, rock versus orchestra doesn't matter to me in games as long as it fits the game it's in.
That's my opinion, not yours.

On an unrelated note, I found a leak of Thom Yorke's record.

If you liked Kid A/Amnesiac era Radiohead, you'll like this. Only 9 tracks though.

Is it just me, or is Coldplay WAY overrated? I personally think they suck badly, but why were they so popular? only one explanation: With each album and concert ticket, there is a pack of beer.
