Tons of games could be in devlopment right now and  could have  been in devlopment for years.
Nintendo at last e3 was speculated to have new franchises but didn't show any. Various  third parties  have made announcements as well. Plus theres rumors.

First,  although some of Miyamoto's comments were actually against such a thing there may be
a Mario game in development at EAD.  Iwata asked him to make one.  Hopefully, he listens.

so far lets make it  into list form

First Party
Mario
Super Smash Bros 3
Metroid  Prime 3(this will be big)
Pokemon  Revolution

speculated
a light gun game
a survival horror fps
a strategy game(possibly Pikmin with a deeper interface. Maybe  a new Fire emblem game

Second Party
Camelot  RPG
Mario Party 8

Third Party
The Ea list
Ubisoft shooter
Sonic  Game
Kojima Game
Thq  game
Rumored  Lucas Art game
Kouichi Suda  game
final  fantasy chronicles online

and more!

You forgot Animal Crossing and Donkey Kong, I'm pretty sure Nintendo has mentioned those in passing.  I'm definitely sure about Animal Crossing, the DK thing may have been dreamed up by IGN.

Edit: and what about that Raid over the River game?  It may turn into vapourware, but as of right now it's mentioned for Revolution and they even have some screens around.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I'd speculate that the E3 lineup will consist of a bunch of sequels and spinoffs, EA/Ubisoft multiplatform games that no one actually cares about, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles because that has more or less been annouced.  My hope is that at least one of those sequels is an incredibly innovative revisioning of Mario that will change the industry as much as Super Mario 64 did.  I'd like some sort of totally original non-franchise game from Nintendo but I'm not holding my breath for it.

We'll also probably get some concrete details regarding online support and maybe even a list of "launch games" for the download service.

I figure I'll either be incredibly impressed by the E3 lineup or incredibly underwhelmed.  There's so much at stake I don't really see any other option.

EDIT: Also, Mario Kart Rev, and whatever happened to Avalon? And what about Zoonami?

Again, Ian, you spout EA hatred. I hope they pledge full support and give me FIFA as well as a well-done Fight-Night.

I'm seriously pissed that the GameCube isn't getting Fight Night: Round Three next month. I hope a Revolution build is underway and will be a launch title.

well I for one think the PROBLEM with Mario is they are trying new things all the time, what teh NEED to do to regain peopels confidence is to make it MORE LIKE THE OLD!

They need Goobas,  they need Mushrooms, they need parahna plants, Yoshis, Fire Flowers, Invincible Star Men, Toads, BRICKS!, Gold Coins, Koopa Troopas, Bob Ombs, levels that actualy have real platforming, etc.

Plus BOWSER needs to be SCARY again. Not like evil incarnate but he needs to make your heart skip a beat when you first see him, it HAS to reclaim the magic that was lost on the last 2 Mario latformers, Mario 64 was pretty damn good but itw as still lacking in so many areas.

Oh and Pipes of coruse. The game needs to be mroe open than Mario 64 or Sunshine was, and tehy need to do away with jumping into paintings or splatches of paint or other stupid stuff and make a world youc an travel form level to level liek Mario 3/Mario World/Mario RPG all had. Thats what i am loking for and if its some totaly new experience that doesnt have ANYTHIGN at all to do with mario not only will I hate and boycot it but so will allt he other old school gamenrs who hated Sunshine for same reasons.

Mario needs to get back to his roots and stop trying new things.

Oh no doubt.

A hub-world similar to SMW would be fantastic. It could even have a metriod feel to it where you need to defeat certian aspects of the game to reach other areas.

For instance, Mario would first have to defeat a castle in order to gain a boat. This boat allows Mario to sail to an island and so on and so forth.

What I would really like in this game though is a mixture between 2D and 3D gaming. 2D Mario with 3D moves would be incredible, and also a nice break from the norm.

Bah, I'm sure that's what people said about Super Mario Bros. 3. And 2.

And. come to think of it, Mario Bros. And Super Mario Bros.

And Mario 64.

BOO to animecyberrat.  I want new Mario experiences, not Super Mario Alpha X 4 Hyper Turbo II '06 Remix.

But even though I disagree with you, I admit, it seems like everyone and his dog wants a Mario game that's exactly like the old Mario games, so I guess that's what Nintendo should do.  I'd just rather see something more creative.

I think Mario as a platformer is doing okay.  Super Mario Sunshine is easily my least favourite of the Mario platformers but it's not horrible, just disappointing.  I think they can still bust out something awesome.

I think Mario's problem is that he's overexposed and is thus boring.  Hardly anyone outside the Nintendo fanbase noticed Super Mario Sunshine as any sort of big deal because even though it was the first "real" Mario game in six years to everyone else it was just another one of the five or so annual Mario games.  All the other Mario games dilute the platformers' impact.  I think for now Nintendo should limit Mario to platformer, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and maybe Mario RPG if they do the "different developer for each game" thing again instead of more Paper Mario games.  All the other stuff should take a seat for a few years to build Mario as something special again.  I'd say this goes for other Nintendo franchises as well.  "Real" entries only, no spinoffs.

Super Mario Sunshine IS a brilliant game.  I think people were disappointed that the scope of the game was more limited than previous Mario games.  It had a single theme, but it did that theme very well.

The game added alot of great ideas to the 3D Mario formula.  The best idea being those hidden challenge levels that played more like traditional platformer.

Hell those were so much fun, I would love a game that was basically 100+ short levels like that.  Add to the mix a more puzzle feel to the game, and you have yourself a winning Mario game.  Adding into that the Revolution control, and I think it feels even more like a puzzle game.  How do I do this move with the controller.  Its impossible.  Then they try and "Oh my Gosh it WORKED!!!"

The quadruple, triangulated, 5-step wall jump is evidence enough of that.
