I think the American DS launch lineup was pretty bad.  The GBA's, after having my memory refreshed by Ian, was better, but not amazing.

I personally agree with the comment someone made about getting around the crap on the GBA.  There are a lot of great games on the system, but they're overshadowed by tons of garbage.  Thereplenty of games like Sabre Wulf and Wade Hixton's Counterpunch that don't get much credit for their greatness because they didn't get the marketing push to make them stand out among the sequels and crappy liscensed games.

I do agree that Nintendo seems to be putting more first and second-party effort in the DS lineup than the GBA lineup.  Super Mario 64 DS is the only "remake" the system has had, and it seems to be far superior to the Mario Advance titles for bonus content.  Nintendo has announced tons of titles for the system that are either brand-new titles, or quality sequels, and it hasn't announced much in the way of rehashes at all.  I like that.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I've tried the thumbstrap with M64DS but I couldn't use it effectively because I never knew where the center of the stick is. Makes precise directional input (or simply stopping) too damn hard. If it was some sort of space flight sim I wouldn't mind but SM64 demands precision. Even worse, the dpad control sucks so bad you can't even use that to move precisely. If you don't stop completely (and that takes longer than expected) you'll turn around by walking a circle, which usually makes you drop into lava. When you're on a time limit that can be extremely annoying as you can rarely do the moves you want without a few stops and those take a second or so each, more if you accidentally press the button a moment too early.
