The buzz has been going around the net for a few days, and now Midway's finally made it official.

Midway Announces Mortal Kombat: Deception for Nintendo GameCube

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 2004--

Revolutionary Franchise Set to Deliver Intense Fighting Action to Nintendo GameCube Owners in Early 2005

Midway Games Inc. (NYSE:MWY), a leading interactive entertainment industry publisher and developer, today announced plans to bring the latest iteration of it's world-renowned Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat(R): Deception(TM), to the Nintendo GameCube(TM) in the first half of 2005.

Mortal Kombat: Deception takes martial arts-style fighting and the Mortal Kombat franchise to new heights with an innovative engine delivering intensely in-depth, blood-spurting action that will appeal to long-time Mortal Kombat fans as well as current-generation gamers. The game features powerful hand-to-hand and special weapons combat, four unique gameplay modes (Kombat, Konquest, Puzzle and Chess Kombat) along with all-new fighting combinations and multiple character specific fatalities.

Mortal Kombat: Deception is scheduled to ship October 4, 2004, for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft.

Removal of the net play feature kinda sucks, but hopefully the extra modes are worth it.

completely G@Y, later release date than ps2 and xbox, no online, almost nobody will pick this game up especially for $50.

Midway is freaking retarded great way to doom your game before its even released (GCN version).

Instead of online it'll get extra stuff, maybe that'll be worth something. Since I don't play online anyway, I think it's worth the tradeoff...

Actually, I had assumed that the next Mortal Kombat game was going to be completely excluded from the Gamecube line-up, so I'm kinda happy to hear this announcement.  I was a big fan of Deadly Alliance, and was disheartened when I heard that the next sequel was going to snub Nintendo completely.  It's good to know that Midway hasn't COMPLETELY turned its back on Nintendo.

Hm, what control style does MK use, anyway? I seem to recall a 2+2 scheme...
