With the success of Link’s Awakening remake and all the love for classic top-down Zelda, I’ve been wondering, will Nintendo release another 2D Zelda on the Switch (or maybe Switch 2)?

A remake (like Oracle of Ages/Seasons) or something completely new in that style?

I kinda miss that old-school dungeon-focused gameplay, so I’d be all in for a fresh 2D title. Curious what others think!

On Switch 1? No.

On Switch 2? Yes.

The frame rate issues in both Link's Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom on Switch 1 make it harder to justify. Grezzo could have optimized more. It's easier to brute force through performance on the more powerful Switch 2.

You can bet we’ll get another 2D Zelda. Starring Zelda or Link or both, doesn’t matter. I’m sure they are profitable enough to continue.

Mario, DK, Zelda, Metroid and Kirby will carry on with 2D and 3D titles. Yoshi and Wario need to get in on that.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.

They could, but will they? Nintendo is weird like that. Sometimes they ignore what fans clearly want. I'd love an Oracle remake, but I won't be shocked if nothing 2D comes for years.
