I am not a hardcore gamer. I'm not a hardcore Nintendo gamer either.
I am a blind as hell Nintendo fanboy.
Talk to my friends, they know I hate PS2 and Xbox with a vengeance. And while I can explain it to myself, I simply cannot explain it to others cause it will simply be pure fanboy trash. Not all of Nintendo's games interest me, and it's quite true that I won't even GET to play some of these games cause they aren't released here or cause NIntendo haven't put out demos of the game.

If, and I stress the 'if', NIntendo went 3rd party, I wouldn't be of games forever, but there would be a 'mourning period' .

I didn't buy GC expecting I would ONLY buy exclusives. Most of my games, however, ARE exclusives, because they were the ones that interested me. I am not loaded with cash. My parent's aren't loaded with cash. I don't get bought 100 dollar presents on my birthday or on christmas like tons of other people here, hence the games i buy must be of high quality. While some people may think that Nintendo's games of later aren't THAT good, Nintendo-exclusives are the ones I turn to first before I turn to any genernal exclusives, and then I turn to the 3rd party games. If there was a game that interests me cause it's cheap, then I'll buy it.

That's my story. 5 years ago, if there was a game a REALLY wanted to get, all I had to do was wait till bday or christmas and BAM, new game. Not anymore

Being a fanboy means that you constantly bash the other systems, and that isn't what I do...It's not my problem that Ninty makes the best games...

Just disregard the title of the thread and answer the question within the thread. Arguing about semantics is silly. Hardcore, fanboy, brand loyal, who cares. The point of me creating this thread was to determine whether or not you allow the "only for" moniker to dictate your game purchasing habits. Its no more complicated then that.

Off the top of my head I think I have only 2 non-exclusive Cube games out of about 18 or so.  Well technically Ocarina of Time and Sonic Mega Collection also aren't exclusive but they aren't on the PS2 or Xbox so I figure they count.  I don't intentionally buy exclusive games it's just sort of an accident.  When you look at most consoles of the past the best games were all exclusive so it makes sense I think for most people to have mostly exclusives in a collection.  My SNES games are mostly exclusives as well.

Multiplatform releases often have the problem that because they have to work on multiple platforms they don't usually push the hardware so you end up with something that's at best passible for the most "inferior" hardware.  A lot of the non-exclusive Cube games are also sloppy ports of PS2 games that were never designed with different hardware in mind.

The two non-exclusive Cube games I own are Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Soul Calibur II.  The PS2 version of THPS3 is probably the best but the Cube ports of all the Tony Hawk games are pretty good since the only real difference is the controller and the lack of online capabilities.  Though it's disappointing I consider those fair "flaws" with the conversion.  Soul Calibur II or course is probably the only game this generation to have been released simultaneously on all three consoles where it's clear the designers tried to get the best they could out of each platform.  Even if the exclusive characters weren't in there that would still be a good multiplatform release.

In terms of whether I'm a hardcore gamer or not well since I don't own the other two consoles, and thus don't play all of the must-play games of this generation, I guess I would automatically not qualify.  I also don't really have enough free time to play games as much as I'd like to and I'm not very good at most games.  I guess I would consider myself a videogame enthusiast who does his research before buying a game.  The average person would think I'm hardcore but many of the hardcore would not.

Ive only owned Nintendo systems since 1985, so i guess i'm a part of the Nintendo cult.  I've kind of figured out , in most cases what you grow up with,  music movies or games, tend to remain with you forever, whereas the more recent releases will never surpass your old favorites.  At least thats the boat i'm in.

I have 22 games for GCN.  Six are EA games (Madden 2002, 2004; Harry Potter; James Bond; Tiger Woods; and Lord of the Rings), one is Sega (Sonic Adventure2: Battle), one is Capcom (Viewtiful Joe), and one is LucasArts (Rogue Squadron2: Rogue Leader).  So, of the 22 games, 16 are "only for" GCN.

Basically, I buy what I'm interested in, but Nintendo is where my loyalty lies.

Viewtiful Joe and Rogue Squadron are exclusive, aren't they?  Not Nintendo, but still only for Gamecube I think.

But I counted those two as exclusive; the six "unexclusive" ones are the EA games.

My collection has mostly exclusives too.  I don't just blindly buy titles because they're Nintendo or Gamecube exclusive, it's just that it happens to work out that way.  The whole reason I bought Gamecube was because its titles appeal to me the most.

I am probably closest to what Ian described.  I am an enthusiast who loves games but doesn't have time to play as much as what hardcore gamers do.  And I don't play every game well.  In general I don't suck at the games I have, but there are times when my 8 year old has to help me.  -__-

well back in the days, all my games were NINTENDO games but with GCN, it seems their games have grown in me.  i cant believe i miss out so many great 3rd party games out there because i used to think without a NINTENDO seal of quality, its a crappy game.  things change and now im drawn into 3rd party more than the 1st party games.

the problem with NINTENDO games is that i have "been there, done that" feeling about it.  worst of all, there games are so easy.  its kinda an insult to hardcore gamers who stuck by them for so long.  ZELDA was a joke, i swear those bottles filled with fairies is useless and MARIO, getting 120 stars was no sweat either.  they are now focusing on new gamers instead of keeping the hardcore happy.  hmmmm...

i got to admit that METROID PRIME and ETERNAL DARKNESS was a relief but then again it wasn't made by EAD or any other JAPANESE STUDIO.

even in the message board, ppl seem 2 be intimidated by me.  it feels like im da slim shady him self 'cuz they had 2 use a microscope everytime i post...  blah they got nothing on me other than attacking my paragraphs...

The only games I buy for the GC are exclusives. Same with PS2. All multiplatform games I buy I get the Xbox version of.
