Yoshio Sakamoto interviewed at ETCS.

With that in mind, Sony's Eye-Toy peripheral is the kind of thing you'd expect to see R&D1 developing. What are your thoughts on Eye-Toy?

Sakamoto: We don't know how well that device is appreciated in Europe here at this point, but if it's quite a unique product it's a shame Nintendo didn't come up with that kind of idea.

Having said that, we can always try some new challenge; I think we can come up with something more unique than the Eye-Toy all the time. We really want to be the number one R&D team.

Are you currently working on games for the next handheld console or the sequel to GameCube?

Sakamoto: That's a really tough and delicate question. What I can tell you is that most of R&D1 is concentrating on handheld gaming, and whatever machines Nintendo is working on, we are preparing for that.

We are really trying to identify what's necessary to make our games different - what kind of elements should be there to make for very good mobile games.

PGC already beat you to the punch. Even so, it's a great interview- I'm glad to be hearing that Metroid: Zero Mission will be getting back to the gameplay emphasis it deviated from in Metroid Fusion.

Still they don't have a talkback segment for it so let's use this thread.

Let's just say there is no graceful way of saying yes we are working on the next system but we can't say anything about it.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

yeah- metroid zero mission is sounding even better than ever- i agree with mouse here- the free roaming gameplay of the old metroid games was taken away in fusion in light of new cutscenes and story- that made the game pretty linear- although it was a great game, it just lacked the freedom of the other metroid games- hopefully zero mission will be good
i call the big one bitey.
