Since Nintendo decribes nearly EVERYTHING they ever do as "surprising", "unique", "innovative", "like nothing you've seen before", etc I'm not going to get too hyped for this in case it's a let down.  I mean this is the company that kept the waterpack in Super Mario Sunshine underwraps because they were afraid that everyone would steal the idea.  Funny how that "great" idea hasn't been ripped off by anyone a year later, huh?

Nintendo has always thought their stuff is way better than anyone else thinks so it's not unknown of them to hype up the lamest thing imaginable.  Therefore I think we shouldn't get to overhyped when for all we know it could be nothing more than a new Pokemon Snap with a "surprising and unique" camera controller.

Actually, I think Nintendo is wrongly accused of over-hyping.
Like the water-pack. It was the fans who assumed it had to be some amazing innovation just because Nintendo wasn't revealing its purpose. It's just Nintendo's policy to be secretive with every little thing. I don't recall it ever suggesting the water-pack was anything to be that excited about.
It's the same with many of Nintendo's other games and products. The fans are the ones who hype them up to unbelievable levels, not Nintendo. Then Nintendo gets blamed when some of its games and products aren't the amazing world-changing multi-million selling phenomenons it never actually promised they'd be.

I think we'll see something similar here. Nintendo's promise of something "surprsing and unique" will be distorted into being a promise of something "that will change gaming forever, destroy the competition, and restore Nintendo to the first place!". Then people will blame Nintendo for over-hyping the announcement when it was really the fans who did it.

N64's analog stick was a total innovation.  One that changed gaming as we know it.  It's an idea
that was quickly stolen by the no-talent idiots over at $ony.

That's only one example.  There are many, many, many other examples of Nintendo leading the way when it comes to innovation.

Nintendo has good reason to keep this suprise underwraps.  Everyone in the world has ripped them off at one time or another.  This list includes Atari, Sega, and most of all $ony, who wouldn't even be where they are today without copying Nintendo.  Remember the PlayStation was colored grey because $ony thought it would remind people of the Ultra-Successful NES.

Ian Sane: Nintendo describes all their new things as 'suprising', 'unique' and 'innovative' cause 97% of the time they are, whether it's a new console, handheld or game.

Mario's waterpack wasn't really innovative in itself as much as it provided gamers with a new way of playing a Mario game. How many times did you forget in those bonus levels that you didn't have the water pack, and missed that jump cause you relied on the hover feature? I know I did.
And while Mario's water pack wasn't ripped off (maybe there is a game with a water pack somewhere), Luigi's Mansion was ripped off by Blinx.

Accually if Nintendo plans to have their console out before the PS3 this is spring is the perfect time to start talking about it. Because if they wait until the E3 just before launch in 2005 they will miss the boat considerably.

"......a console w/ wireless GameBoy style controllers......"

"....an online plan that includes downloading NES,SNES, and N64 Classics.  These same games can then be played on the console or the handheld..."

Also what about that Final Fantasy 7 Remake for GC?

(I don't mean the planned sequel of FF7 either)

I guess that is the problem with vague announcements about an annoucement in the future. It leads to overspeculation.

Luigi's Mansion was ripped off by Blinx.

Okay, not that I think that Blinx is the biggest thing since sliced bread, but have you even played it?

- Luigi's Mansion is a fixed camera game where Luigi sucks up ghosts in a haunted house using a vaccuum cleaner and can shoot out fire, ice and water.

- Blinx is a free roaming camera 3-D platformer where the main purpose is to solve puzzles by stopping, rewinding and fast forwarding time.  Blinx has a vaccuum cleaner that can be used to suck up all enemies and most of the scenery and fire them back at other enemies.

The only similarity that these games share is that they have vaccuum cleaners that suck things up.  But wait...didn't Kirby suck enemies up?  OH MY GOD THEY'RE ALL RIPOFF COPYRITE KIRBY!!!!

*sigh*

OMG!
Aussie Ben's on the forums!

I know what the differences are between Luigi's Mansion and Blinx.........i was just trying to make a (poor?) attempt at flaming the Xbox.
And yes, I have played Blinx. But obviously I don't have an Xbox and the game, so my comments may be pretty much ignored cause it's based off a demo. I just don't really prefer platform games with techno music, as it really gets annoying after a while. I'm not saying the game sucks, as that would be stupid, and I would become just like the millions of ignorant Xbox and PS2 fanboys who diss Zelda and Mario.
I'm sure the game is good, but I neither have the time nor effort to search out the vast populous of Sydney to find someone who DOES have the full game.

All in all, it's nice to see you here on the forums Ben!!

Heh - thanks.  I do read the forums a lot, but there's not often I find something I can post that I think is interesting. ;-)  Like I said though, I didn't really think Blinx was spectacular, but it's frustrating to see people label a game a 'clone' when it's not - no matter what system it's for.  I'm planning to get myself an Xbox when Grabbed by the Ghoulies (OMG LUIGISMANSION RIPEOF!) comes out.

Righto, carry on.  As you were, everyone.

Hmmmm, your faith in Rare's first didn't-start-on-a-nintendo-system game is strong i must say, despite mostly negative opinions.
I won't buy any of Rare's Xbox games, mainly cause I'm a stubborn bitch and seeing them praising Microsoft is just something I still can't stand. I MIGHT play them, but i can't assure you of that........
Althought I will go into hiding when any Rare Xbox ads come on TV, cause i will still not have gotten over it..

The only game that has the power to make me get an X-box is Banjo-Kazooie.  I still wish Ninty had bought the rights from Rare. ^_^

uh considering Rare is OWNED by MS, there's no surprise that  Rare is praising MS.  I mean, you praise your boss when he's around, right?

has anyone else speculated that nintendo may release a reincarnation of the 64DiskDrive that was never released in america? a gamecube version of the device maybe not a DISK drive, but a Hard drive that sipmly plugsinto the bottom

i really like the idea of downloading nes/snes/n64/gb/gbc/gba games to a hard drive and being able to play them. just ideas but these dreams are what i think about at night right before i doze off and join that big online game in my subconsious
