http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/12/microsoft_gets_cute_about_possible_rare_replay_release_on_wii_u

So Microsoft Game Studios' twitter account got too cute with people clamoring for Rare Replay to get a Nintendo release. So much so that they had to issue a retraction that's currently pinned as their top tweet. Now, I know this will never, ever, ever, ever happen but it still got me thinking about what Nintendo could offer in terms of a possible trade. Instead of port begging, let's ask for a trade!(with IP we don't own, but hey, it's an internet forum) What would be fair value?

I'm thinking Nintendo gets together with Platinum and they go to Microsoft and say "hey, here's Bayonetta 2 on your system. You get this exclusive game over PS4. In exchange, you can release Rare Replay with the DKC trilogy, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing and Starfox Adventures. You can even sell it for $50-$60."

I mean, Microsoft has to at least think about it, right? There has to be minimum one shady, closed door meeting if that offer gets made, right? There would be some development issues to get around, but that could be solved with cash consideration being thrown each others' way. Should I go back to my morning coffee and forget this demented idea crossed my mind?

EDIT: My trade specifics:
Microsoft gets: Bayonetta 2 plus the optimised version of Bayonetta 1 (sans Nintendo costumes)
Nintendo gets: Rare Replay Wii U Edition (with DKC trilogy, DK64, Diddy Kong Racing and StarFox Adventures replacing the Microsoft exclusive titles).

Nintendo/Platinum's probably experienced what sell-through they're going to get from Bayonetta 2 at this point.  Your proposal I think would be very little lost on their end.  I'd be more curious what extra sales Platinum could expect from porting to the Xbox One.  Also consider I expect additional work would be needed to port it to Xbox One.

That said, while I've been pining for Rare Replay, I don't know if my desire for the game is equally shared among the install base for Wii U.  It would be a feather in Nintendo's cap for what I think is an impressive library of games, but I don't know what kind of business sense it would make for either parties.

Can't just think of "will this make $$".  You also have to think of the opportunity cost aspect - "what could I be doing instead of porting this game, and will that make us more $$ than porting this game that's a few years old?"

No.

I'd rather have one well-made Platinum game than one hundred Rare games.

I would support this, Nintendo needs all the games they can get at this point and Xbox One could use a title with some boobage to pick up some sales in Japan land. But ONLY if NX is backwards compatible with Wii U otherwise save it for NX.

I'd love to see this happen.

Having Bayo 2 get played by more people seems good, and having Rare Replay on a Nintendo console would be great for retro fans. Bayo 2 might not have happened without Nintendo funding, but it's not a Nintendo franchise... while many of the Rare games are strongly identified with retro Nintendo even if they are owned elsewhere.

What's the downside? Nobody loses from a fan perspective - it just means that more people would get to enjoy these great games.

That said, I don't expect it to happen because (ignoring other potential blocking factors) it just doesn't seem worthwhile from a business standpoint. I suspect the amount of effort required for ports would outweigh any potential profits - but would love to be wrong about that!

Nintendo giving up a 3rd party exclusive doesn't really seem like a great idea, but at this stage, it's not gonna make or break the Wii U.

But I wonder if it'd be possible to get it on the 3DS.  You'd probably have to strip out a bunch of the extras, but I'd love to have Rare Replay on the 3DS.  I'm sure Nintendo go get MS to go for it if they footed the bill on the publishing.

Well, how does Bayonetta 2 no longer being Wii U exclusive affect me if we, in this hypothetical situation, as Wii U owners get Rare Replay too? Oh no. I can't play list wars and include Bayonetta 2 as an exclusive anymore. :P

Stupid question, even for hypothetical one.

Would i rather be slapped by a mackerel or eat a bow of ants?

Would i rather get third Avatar series or get a good Terminator movies for once since Cameron left?

Would i get a raise or move to better place in the city?

Woud i trade new WarioWare game for new Super Mario Galaxy? obviously i would

Are they fire ants? If they are, then mackerel.

Would i rather get third Avatar series or get a good Terminator movies for once since Cameron left?

That's impossible. At least my question had a sliver of a chance at happening.

Would i get a raise or move to better place in the city?

Microsoft did come out and say they would make  up for losing Street Fighter 5 so them trading Rare Replay to Nintendo in exchange for something more Xbox friendly is not a bad idea, Bayonetta 2 is not that game though. Sadly Wii U doesn't have anything worth trading to MS for this game. At least nothing they can reasonably be rid of. Maybe put Master Chief in Smash Bros. might do it though.

Boy, plenty of hostility for a benign discussion topic.  This is a discussion forum, there's a limit to how much Nintendo discussion on actual events can happen right now, and Soren posed a topic.  Nice dismissive attitude for someone who bothered to post on the topic.

Well from what I have seen, people around here don't even talk about Nintendo anyways they play silly name-calling games in that one forum I try to stay out of.

Three thoughts about the funhouse:
1) Nothing posted there is meant to be taken seriously.
2) Outside of that subforum, conversation is supposed to be cordial/respectful.
3) it's not the only place that people post, in fact, if I were to guess, the talkback threads & podcast discussions are probably the most lively places on the forums.

What's a Nintendo?

Once upon a time it just meant video game. If you had a 'Nintendo' you had access to all the video games in the world that mattered. Now it is more of an inside joke people whisper about but have long forgotten it actually used to mean something. There is this one guy on Youtube who explains it best. He wears glasses, drinks a certain green beer and has a hard time letting go of the past, I think he represents true Nintendo fans perfectly. So much in fact that Nintendo even gave him a video game on their "flagship" console.

I remember when Nintendo was a verb. My friend's parents would tell us we could go play Nintendo when the system they owned was a Sega Genesis.

I got the opportunity to play a bit of the Rare Replay since my dad got an XB1 for Christmas along with that title. Maybe it's the new controllers, or maybe gaming has evolved, but they don't feel like they have aged very well. At least, not as well as I had thought. Maybe I'm finally seeing them without nostalgia goggles. Both of the Banjo games just didn't feel all that great. I'll have to play around with all of the titles more to get a better feel, but this game is no longer a driving force for me to get an XB1. I'd rather get a PS3 to round out the previous gen and focus on getting all of the great games that were on all previous gen platforms.

Of course I would. Being exclusive doesn't make a game fun.
