Colors! 3D, a drawing application available on the 3DS eShop, will receiving a long-in-the-works update on April 5.

As noted on developer Collecting Smiles' website, features of the update include:

• Follow your favorite artists in the gallery to make sure you don’t miss any of their paintings.

• Customize your Nintendo 3DS button setup to streamline your painting flow.

• Use the new search bar to easily find paintings of your favorite topics.

• Filter paintings in the gallery based on if they used a reference photo not—only want to see original works? No problem.

• See what tools you and others used to create a painting—and find out who spent over 30 hours on a single work!

• Get news directly in Colors! 3D about everything from gallery improvements to painting contests.

• Make your own gallery page more individual by customizing it with a message and a profile picture.

• Tag your paintings with the new #tags system for other users to easily find them.

• And tons (and tons) of other additions and bug-fixes.

You can read a full listing of each addition here.

In addition, the studio has announced a contest to coincide with this update. Users are to create a drawing using the theme "Paint the World in colors," upload it to the online gallery, and use the tag #painttheworld in the description. The contest runs until April 25, and first place walks away with a Wii U.

I'm ashamed to say that I only created 3 or 4 things with 'Colours! 3D' and then never used it again.  :-[

I did, however, continue to check out everybody else's amazing work. Man! There are some seriously talented people out there. It makes me guilty for not continuing with what was a passion for me in my youth.

I'm really happy to see updates for this app though. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the best 3rd Party pieces of content on the system. Period.
