I knew going in that besides the actual missions your old squadmates wouldn't play a factor at. All. It was disspointing at first but its something I can live with. I thought the writing was a decent mix of M31 and ME2 but never hitting any of either.


The one thing I hated was the way bioware went out of its way to **** with the universe in a bid to not make any more games, which was never going to happen in the first place.

I was just thinking the same thing about downloadable games, and I think in the past it has applied to portable games as well. They're not going to get a fair shake in The SpikeTV Marketing Budget Awards, not ever. My personal top 3 for this year so far are downloadables. Eughhh.

I think LBPV doesn't deserve all the bumping off you people are so eager to do, it may be a bit on the short side but it's mostly great platforming action. Certainly doesn't get boring early like Gravity Rush.

Spec Ops was a very good experience though I suppose the alleged gameplay weakness keeps it from any GOTY considerations (and there's no best story category where it would be worth nominating even if it may not win). I seriously don't understand why it's considered so much worse than Gears of War in the gameplay department. Hell, at least enemies die when you shoot them.

I always find GOTY stuff difficult since I can't remember what went into this year and what into the last. Plus there's this feeling that a GOTY needs to be just plain awesome and often nothing is awesome enough so some years would have to go without a GOTY.


Odd to see no Football Manager 2013 in team sports tho. Well, okay, that's probably more of an economic simulation which Spike doesn't even have a category for.

It's probably because this is a primarily American show and Football Manager isn't as big of a deal here as it is overseas. I know I've become a pretty big soccer fan, and have gotten really into FIFA but haven't yet tried Football Manager, even though I'd probably like it.

Best Adapted Video Game - Ok, what's Epic Mickey 2 doing here? What, exactly, is that game "adapted" from? I'd put The Amazing Spider-Man in its place, and either way my winner is The Walking Dead. It will be Spike's as well.

This was my exact thought as well.  Epic Mickey 2 is an original story.  There was nothing it could be adapted from. If Disney had made a movie or book about it beforehand, I guess I could see the reason it is there.  But that's not the case.

And yes, Walking Dead will win the category on the sole fact that it's good pub.

Why would Halo 4 be nominated when it JUST came out? I know the VGA's are such a joke that no real gamer takes them seriously, but nominating a game that just came out last week would have been very bad.

I took a brief look at the nominees and was disgusted at some of their nominations. I hope one day the video game industry gets a serious awards show.

Sadly Real Gamers cant keep a multi million dollar company alive and kicking any more. So shows like this are needed to showcase some of the best games this year, and have people know whats hot so they can add it to there shopping list. In the end shows like this help the industry out regardless if our favorite game wins or not. I dont need IGN to give XenoBlade Chronicles a GOTY award to know that it is the GOTY (Atleast for the Wii )

I would comment on how delightfully deserving the award winners were this year (completely surprising me), but then I remembered that the show is over and we STILL don't know who almost half the Award Winners are (including best Wii, Handheld, and PC game).

But hey, Telltale won Best Studio and Game of the Year.  Journey won Best PS3 Game, Best Independent Game, and Best Score. The VGAs aren't beyond redemption.

For a channel like Spike these are decent ratings and theygetgoodstreamingtraffic. That and like they said its being watched enough to trend on twitter.

I can understand why thestickuptheass gamer wouldn't like it. That's why we have the Baftas.

I know mostgamers havethis obsession with having gaming as an Art form Validated. But this clearly isn't the venue for it as this is comparable to theMTV movie and music video awards.

The Awards were pretty on the nose. Clamptrap was a suprise but Journy was obvious going to win inde of the year.

And spike basicly pandered the crap out of the walking dead. I do think itdeservedtowin (its my goty) but every otherword ofthepreshoe was the walking dead and one has to wonder were they trying to ride thecoatialsofbthe show and comic.

 Nope Wii U is current Gen in the sense that PS3/360/Wii are last gen. The ps4/720 are next gedn intill they are released in which they are then current gen with the Wii U.

That and thrid parties probably won't care about the Wii U when it comes to their next gen or cross gen games. Wouldn't be suprised if the third parties are trying to appeal to get their games on stage at. Microsoft or Sony's press confrence.

While I personally don't like the VGA's, it's not because I'm a stickintheassgamer like thatguyontheotherforumwiththebrokenkeyboard. I just don't like award shows period, and I can't decide which I dislike more; traditional serious events like the Oscars full of pretentiousness and giant egos, or drivel such as VMA's and VGA's that.

On one hand I do wish video games were taken a little more seriously, but I know they're still games and meant for enjoyment; if anything I just want the stigma of games being for kids and anyone over the age of 16 who plays them is some sort of anti-social loser, to die out because it's obviously not true. Casual markets are booming with things like Angry Birds, and those are still technically video games so why do consoles games still have the stigma? Meanwhile I don't think its important for video games to be viewed as art, at least not to the extent of some of those "stickintheassgamers".

On the other hand, do we really want video games and their developers to be anything like those serious award shows and their nominees; full of pretentious assholes thinking their work is somehow changing the world? Just imagine this across the board.

But you also look at it as the Wii U is current gen because its a a new generation of console from the old and is released. The PS4 and 720 are still the next gen sony and microsoft consoles which is what makes them have the next gen. Upon release they become apart of the current generation as their predesscoers are last gen.

I never particularly liked the VGAs as I always saw them as being the epitome of the dudebro gamer and the blatant hoering out of the industry.  The majority of the games are your usual AAA big budget releases with the occasional Nintendo game thrown in out of courtesy (IMO) and it sometimes comes down to a popularity contest.  Now my opinion might be skewed though given that I have a strong affinity for Nintendo games but I can't help but feel that if Nintendo games had a AAA budget and were built on a platform as capable as the PS360, they would get more recognition in these shows. 

Enough of that though, I don't want to derail this thread.  As for this years VGA, my opinion of it hasn't changed much but I did find enjoyment out of this one.  I particularly loved the orchestrated pieces that they used throughout the show and I hope it becomes the standard from here on out.  I also thought the jokes were funny and LOVED the Tenacious D performance at the end, especially with the hilarious "Phoenix", AKA giant cock, in the background.  I was dieing when I saw that lol.  That's a way to end a show lol.
