Are the $50 Unlimited everything Net 10 plans worth it?
« on: November 28, 2012, 01:39:52 PM »
They have a program where if I bring m own phone that supports a SIM card, I can get a net 10 plan with unlimited everything. It's no contract. Is this too good to be true?

idk if the unlimited plan includes texts thats great. I got like 600 minute plan for 40 dollars that lasts 3 months from net10. People tell me that the pre-paid plans are terrible, but i dont talk on the phone that much. I pay 40 dollars, granted I don't talk that much, but if i paid 50 dollars a month I'd pay $150 for 3 months. When I was living with my parents I had Magic Jack which was just like 20 bucks a year, so between the two i had a cheap deal.

I want it mainly for data, and I don't want a two year contract in case I don't have my current job until then.

Doesn't Straight Talk offer something similar for only $45/month?

Yes it is worth it and if you sign up for auto payment they take off $5 a month. Straight Talk and Net 10 are the same thing and both are owned by Tracfone now. My wife has Net 10 and it really is unlimited, we have tons of people in the plan at work. You even get faux g if your AT&T-compatible phone can do it.

Not sure what Faux G is...

But yeah, a buddy of mine from work is willing to give me his Galaxy S II and all I need to do is pay $14.99 (before discount) to activate it, and then I have contract-less unlimited data for $50 a month? Still seems fishy, but I'll take it.

Yeah - that sounds like Straight Talk's plan, except that it's $5 more/month. :D

http://www.straighttalksim.com/

Sure, I push Straight Talk - but not just because it's a Walmart thing - when Straight Talk rolled out, Net10 didn't offer anything similar (Net10 was the ten-cent-a-minute phone with the awesome League of Evil commercials).

Brandogg's right - Straight Talk, TracFone and Net10 are all the same company (América Móvil) - so the only real advantage of going with Net10 is paying $60/year more (or signing up for auto pay, which... bleh.)

Faux G is HSPA what AT&T and T-Mobile call 4G. It's basically 3.5G, although on T-Mobile you can get some very high speeds, only problem is T-Mobile sucks.

But can I use any old unlocked phone with a SIM card slot on straight talk?

EDIT: Nevermind.

I use an AT&T Go Phone. Unlimited voice and text for $50 a month plus sales tax. I bought a refurb Android Go Phone off the AT&T website for $100 and it has wifi but no data plan. It's not the best phone and the battery is weak, but it meets my needs. I refill my account with $50 at the end of each month.

Yes, it has a SIM Card. I've heard I could buy another AT&T phone and move over to it if I wanted, except for the iPhones.

iPhone works on Go Phone, but you're wasting your money. Switch to Net 10 (or Straight Talk) and add unlimited internet for an extra zero dollars per month.

Straight Talk is on the Sprint network around here and the Sprint Network is terrible. You have to go for AT&T or Verizon for decent coverage and fewer dropped calls.

Straight Talk uses almost everyone's networks, you just need to get an AT&T-based Straight Talk SIM card (got Wal-Mart). I agree Sprint is terrible, though.
