Dinosaur Discussion Questions ROUND 2
« on: November 04, 2012, 09:34:11 PM »
I've been getting some requests to have another Dinosaur Discussion segment on Connectivity. You know what that means--I need questions from YOU good people! There hasn't been a ton of news lately; the most interesting news stories have been the feathered ornithomimosaur and the study about how Microraptor used its hindlimb "wings." But surely there are more general questions you lovely listeners have.

And they don't have to be dinosaur-specific. I'm fairly knowledgeable in most areas of tetrapod paleo. It's invertebrates and fish that I have a harder time with. So avoid those questions. But whatever else? GO!
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

So... I know that the great marine reptiles like Icthyosaurs and Plesiosaurs and Pliosaurs (what's the diff anyways between pliosaurs and plesiosaurs?) and whatnot weren't dinosaurs but... WHAT did they evolve from them? Where did they split off from the Great Reptile family tree?

Same question for Pterosaurs actually...

How much do we know about their behavior?

For instance did T-Rex gather in packs? Or how did they hunted? I think on Dinosaur Revolution (which from i what i understand is pretty reliable as far as TV goes) i remember some remark about T-Rexes and other similar carnivorous dinosaurs attacking from ambush?

How is that even possible? They are huge! Where did the hide in? Lion attacking from ambush makes sense -- they hide in grass, but what was there to hide T Rexes?

In honor of Star Wars being bought by Disney.

If you had to choose a Dinosaur to ride then cut open and sleep in for warmth which would it be and why?

What is the current Dinosaur Species Count?

I'm sorry to ask total newb questions Zach, but I just realized that this is stuff that I don't actually, well, know, and it's like giant marine reptiles suddenly appeared all of a sudden as far as I know.

I mean, I find what we know about the evolution of modern whales fascinating, I was just wondering if there were similarly fascinating stories for the reptiles...
