Civilization Revolution is **** compared to IV or V.

Yeah, I think I agree with you on that. My biggest beef with Revolution (I have the PS3 version) is the stupidity and predictability of the AI. No matter what you do eventually they will demand something from you, and if you refuse they will declare war on you, and then when that happens they ALL declare war on you, and they refuse to accept a status quo peace with you even if you kick their ass and took several of their cities. Its only when they are down to like their very last city and their demise is imminent that they will agree to a peace in your favor, and it shouldn't be like that. That kinda ruined the game for me. I didn't even want to go to war in the first place.

it's not the kind of thing I'd want to play on a TV.

My TV screen and PC monitor are one and the same. These days most computers support HDMI input, and at the same time many TVs support VGA or DVI input, so there is no definitive line between what is a TV and what is a computer monitory anymore, except that a computer monitor tends to lack a TV tuner and remote control support. Other than that they are pretty much functionally identical.

I meant I don't want to play it sitting at that much of a distance from the screen, like most people do with their TV. The game is too text-heavy with a lot of menus and it's too cluttered to be sitting that far away.

MS actually had a few RTS on the 360 this gen, LoTR Battle for Middle Earth and Halo Wars for example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

MS's been losing lots of points with me since it's "kinect" phase so more than likely I'll be getting an PS4 at launch and buying an WIIU for my nephew and just "borrowing" it from time to time to play Nintendo's exclusives.

The Wii U and (Windows) PC combination sounds like a good idea to me. Even if you can't afford the $300-800 to have a current, mid-range PC, there are a lot of new PC games that scale well or old PC games that hold up. Also, you can't forget about Steam sales and other digital retailer sales ( http://www.cheapshark.com/ - Digital Game Deals ).

Still, it sucks when the components of your PC are reaching the end of its usefulness. It's a sad feeling when you once-mighty desktop that was able to run games on high settings has to go to low settings to maintain a steady, playable frame rate.

Right now, my gaming "conduits" are 3DS, DS, Wii, and PC, in order of most played to least.   My PC usage will tick up slightly with a Steam sale (like now), but not much.

But I agree with a lot that has been said in this thread--  it just makes more sense to go WiiU/PC, as opposed to WiiU/Whatever HD Console, because most of the interesting Western games will make it onto PC AND other consoles, but then you can at least justify spending some money on your PC because in my case (though I'm sure not solely my case) you use your PC for work.  I have a home business that I use my PC for, where I'm running tons of different programs at the same time, with a lot of CPU/RAM heavy stuff (like every single Office program, a couple PDF files, Skype, and Firefox is a HOG).   You can justify spending some more money on a quad core CPU and 8 gigs of ram.  And at that point, throwing in middle to high range video card in the $100 to $150 range is not a huge thing.   On top of that, figure in the amount of money you save on the cost of games (cheaper on PC via Steam) and not paying for 360 Gold, then it works out pretty well.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

Oh, and I'd add:  If you have a home business that you use your PC for, then on your taxes you will need deductions like crazy, and a new PC components work out nicely.   You can call it a 1GB DDR5 Radeon, I call it "office equipment."  :-)

Most 3rd-party games come to the PC, but Sony's 1st-party games will always be exclusive to PlayStation. You won't find games like Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, Gran Turismo, Sly Cooper, God of War, etc. on a PC.

With Nintendo and Sony, you get the best of 1st-party and 3rd-party. It's a win-win for me.

I figured I'd post this here.  Has anyone seen the stuff the modders are doing with GTA4?  The graphic improvements they have made are simpley amazing.  I doubt we won't see things this good even on the PS720 and if so, it'll more than likely be at the end of their life cycles.

This second video is of the older model of Icenhancer but still good to look at.  I will like to make note though that you need a beast of a PC to pull these graphics off with playable framerates.  Still amazing none the less.

Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC is a poorly optimized version and the ENB series and ICEnhancer modifications sadly don't/can't do anything to address that. Still, the videos are a delight to look at and can instill a lot of envy.

It must be said that it isn't just ICEnhancer in those videos but also an array of user-made models and textures that are more detailed.

It's amazing how hackers can make a game look better than the actual developers.

Now let's see the hackers update San Andreas with the same engine (models, textures, etc.).

It helps when the game is several years old at that points. If Rockstar made the game today, it would at least look that good.

From the little we've seen of Grand Theft Auto V, I'm not so sure.

Yeah, GTA5 looks good from what we've seen but no where near the level of those videos.  The only thing I've seen close to that is the Watchdogs trailer and even that didn't seem to have as much detail but did have better character models.

Speaking of GTA5, I really hope the WiiU gets it.  There really shouldn't be any excuse now.  To cover the cost of development, they really should put it on every available console that can run it.

if you don't have the time or just like to plug and play, then I can see where PCs won't be the way to go.
Bingo. It was fun spending time in my youth farting around with PC's. Now, I am old, too fat, have three kids, and a high-pressure-time-sink-full-time-plus job (high paying too, fortunately). So my game time is limited. My backlog is overwhelming, but I like to have choice. I have a Wii and PS3. I am deeply satisfied with both. I bought the PS3 mainly for Batman and have loved the exclusives and third party games a lot. I have a huge Wii catalogue and I love them all for diffrent reasons, even though they all have their unique quirks and faults. So do the PS3 games. No game is perfect. And I do enough reading to know which games I will like. I do not buy terrible games.

If you want all the good 1st-party games, stick with Nintendo and Sony. :D

This sentence would go great in an anti-PC commercial.
