Is this really a big deal? i was under the assumption that no one used external DSP chips due to cost.

I think that a load of you know what. First of all, it would add a significant cost to already expensive cartridges. Something that could be oggten away with in the 16 bit days when cartridged where kind, and people were used to paying more for games. But not now.

Secondly, it would take a lot more that a new chip to make the SP compare to the promissed PSP. It will take a higher resolution screen, a larger media size, better sound capabilites, and so on. In other words, a brand new machine. Which I have no doubt Nintendo is working on.

I still think that this is a misinterpretation of the chip the next Game Boy will use.

Cartridges are overprices right now. How many $40 GBA games do we see? None. Nintendo milked that crowd and moved on. Most new games can be had for $30. I think adding a chip would only increase the cost of the game by a few dollars at most. I'm guessing $1 or $2.

How much more did Star Fox cost when it came out on the SNES?

My memory of that is rusty and I was little back then but I think it was 65-70$. Seventy is what sticks in my mind. I just remember going to toys r us with like a years worth of allowances and getting it. Was a great game though.

I have a feeling that the GBA will live around two years after the PSP is released. The GBA by then will have improved in technology, something that usually happens with consles late in their life.
