Samus backwards = "Sum Ass"
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:09:55 PM »
Did you guys ever noticed this? I was thinking about how many of the Nintendo characters have some evil Nemesis, and Samus has "Dark Samus", but she doesn't have the equivalent of a "Wario" like Mario does. So I was thinking if she did have that, what would that character's name be? So I tried playing around with the letters and couldn't really figure anything that worked, but then I tried spelling her name backwards and what you get is "Sumas", which you could imagine to mean "Sum Ass".

So is this a coincidence, or is this like an intentional reference to Samus and the form fitting zero suit?

I also found out if you spell her last name Aran backwards what you get is "Nara". I looked that up on Wikipedia and what I found is that is the name of a city in Japan. It isn't just any city, either. Apparently this ws the capital of Japan at one time. Obviously the creators of the game would know about this since they are Japanese, so is it possible this had something to do with her name?

Quote
Nara was the capital of Japan from 710 to 784, lending its name to the Nara period. According to the ancient Japanese book Nihon Shoki, the name "Nara" derived from the Japanese word narashita meaning "made flat".[1][2]

So does the name Samus Aran spelled backwards actually mean "Sum Ass made flat"? Would this make a good Wario style arch-nemesis character for her?
is your sanity...

They might not.

I'm assuming your American.  Did you know the Capital of Tennessee was originally Franklin Tennessee?  It move to Nashville and the Town is now known as Knoxville.

Nope, the town of Franklin still exists (about 62K people as of the 2010 census). Knoxville is a little over 1 million people and is on the other side of the state. Franklin was never the state capital (though it did try and break off and become a new state, but returned when it ran out of money).

I work in Franklin. I know that it exist.  Knoxville was the capital and it was Franklin.  I know because I grew up in Knoxville.  This still makes my point.

Sumas is a border town in Washington State.

Been there many times in my youth.
From Wikipedia:
"The name, Sumas, comes from a local native tribal word meaning "land without trees.""

I would shudder to think about what Sum Ass Made Flat would look like.
