Nintendo is bringing Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 to North America, but without the Professional edition's extra content.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27246

The North American release of Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 will not include content from Japan’s re-release, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional.

The Professional edition was released in March of this year in Japan as an improvement on the original, including new monsters and abilities.

Nintendo is instead localizing the original title. The game is set for release on August 28 in North America.

Why not localize the better version? I doubt we will get both.

I thought this was already confirmed, but maybe it's just what I was expecting to happen. I've never played a Dragon Warrior Monsters game, but I've heard they are good so I'll probably get this one. I'm not doing it just for the Club Nintendo coins. Really, I'm not.

The original game still featured over 300 monsters, so it's not like there will b a lack of monsters.

Still odd to not get the better version.  I can't believe it would be very much more to do considering it launched in March.  FF we used to get what would become what would be the equivalent of the Professional Edition.

This may not be Nintendo's decision to make.

Remember, this game was developed and published in Japan by SquareEnix. The decision to only publish the core game without the professional content may very well have been made by SquareEnix and taken completely out of Nintendo's hands. It's not really fair to say Nintendo should have just done this or Nintendo should have just done that since they may have had absolutely no control over this decision in the first place.

Of course this does beg the question of why SquareEnix isn't publishing the game in NA themselves..

Because the Nintendo-published Dragon Quest IX and VI sold better than the Square-Enix-published Dragon Quest IV and V.

I wouldn't be surprised if NCL had NOA and NOE start the localizations months before Professional was even released and when it was, decide that the localizations were too far in development and didn't want to spend the amount of time and money needed to do all the content they'd have to for Professional.

Yeah Nintendo has the money but something like Dragon Quest Monster I'd imagine is kind of low on their importance scale and so they didn't want to spend too much on it.

OH thank god. At first I thought we weren't getting it at all. I'm just glad there's going to be another installment!
