Picross e is set to hit Japan's download service next week.

Picross, the dangerously addictive picture-drawing puzzle game, is getting a new iteration on the 3DS eShop known as Picross e.

Returning to its 2D roots after Picross 3D on the DS system, the latest game will make full use of the 3DS touch screen for quick and easy chiseling fun. Picross e includes 150 puzzles ranging from 5x5 to 15x15 in size.

The game is scheduled to release in Japan on July 27 for 500 yen, roughly equated to 5 USD. There is no news on an English version just yet.

There goes the last possible reason I could have to want Mario's Picross on the VC. This is optimized for the 3DS screens, touch-enabled, and also available straight from the SD card like the VC game.

I know this is a 2D puzzle - but does it use the 3D effect at all?

I'm...extremely tempted to get this once it's brought to the States, but like Vega said I too am spoiled by Picross 3D and would prefer that in downloadable form to this.
