Or more specifically, since that ranking represents current numbers, the operation isn't doing enough to expand their numbers / get the word out and engage people.

Probably since most people know that where a game is ranked on Amazon doesn't mean **** to companies and have less influence even than a online petition.

Nintendo of America has been officially issued a trademark for The Last Story, one of the missing Wii games that the company said it had no plans to bring to the US.

Nintendo filed for the trademark back in January 2010, but only received it this week. This doesn't mean that the company will release the game, but it could spark hope in those fans still holding out on the Mistwalker RPG.

What ever this means there is no way that is a bad thing.

Or Nintendo could just be trademark squatting (see: Break, Chrono).

That of course was Square Enix. It's not really trademark squatting, just making sure that no other company can take the name in case they do bring it here, since it does use that name in other territories. It's like how they sometimes register dozens of domain names for potential use.

So is anyone else actually bothering to send letters? I've heard that a physical letter is worth a hundred email messages, and tend to believe it.

I just got a letter from Nintendo in response to my letter it says

   Dear Matthew:
"Thanks for your recent letter. I can see why you want to see games like Xenoblade,The Last Story, or Pandora's Tower released here in the Americas, but at this time we have no new information to offer or announcements to make regarding these games. I realize this is disappointing, but your comments have been documented and made available for other departments here to use as they see fit. We appreciate hearing what our consumers find important."

Sincerely,
Nintendo Of America INC.

Wow, that sounds exactly like what I received in response to an email inquiry. Like "copy and paste" exactly.

Well at least they are responding. Better than nothing I guess. Maybe I'll get a letter in the mail as well.

With the news of Nintendo dropping the price of the 3DS, what does this entail about the chances of Nintendo releasing the Operation Rainfall titles in north America? It appears to me that Nintendo's shareholders played a hand in the 3DS price being dropped due to record money loses, so those same shareholders might force Nintendo to release these titles in their biggest market in order to make up that money.

It could have the opposite effect actually, it may make them more adverse to risking releasing these titles because they may feel there is a chance they will not recoup localization, packaging and advertising costs. I find the whole situation interesting from a business side of things and want to see how Nintendo responds, they may forego any major risks for the time being until they are able to regroup and strategize, which may mean any hope of plans being changed for these games is all but gone.

I agree with Golden Phoenix; honestly, I think that they'll play things pretty conservatively until they have a few good fiscal quarters under their belt...and that could take a while.
