Nintendo Releases Patch to Fix Ridge Racer Freezing Bug
« on: June 16, 2011, 12:54:43 AM »

The latest update to the 3DS firmware is listed by Nintendo as a "stability" patch.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26847

Nintendo has released an update to the 3DS firmware that, among other "stability" fixes, corrects the Ridge Racer 3D freezing bug that they introduced in the eShop update last Monday. The newest version, 2.1.0, also includes unspecified "minor adjustments to enhance user experience."

3DS systems set up to prompt for updates automatically will be notified via a SpotPass alert. If the 3DS is not setup for these alerts the update option is available in the 3DS system settings menu.

Oh man, I totally forgot about that bug.  And I've been playing Ridge Racer all this time too.  Never encountered it.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

SpotPass doesn't just notify you of the system update -- it pre-downloads it so that you can install it as soon as you open the system, even if you are no longer online. This should help Nintendo deliver firmware to people who don't have regular home access to WiFi.

Just like Google's Chrome browser. Very cool.

Nice!  Automatic update (added in v2.0.0) works great.  I opened my 3DS that was in sleep mode and a popup message said that an update was ready to be installed.

Very strange.

I'm in the UK. Got up and read NWR as usually. Seen the post about the update. Thought awesome. First software update. Lets take a look.

Checked my system notification light, nothing. Opened it, still nothing. Opened the notifications section. Still nothing. Made sure all my settings were on for auto download etc and they were. Then thought great NOE have neglected the UK once again (We don't have any E3 videos on our eShop). Maybe we will get the update later today. Out of curiosity I thought I would check the manual update and there you go. It downloaded and installed.

The only thing i can think of is that I had Zelda (GBC) on hold. I didn't think this would affect anything though.

Very Strange. lol

No it shouldn't affect it because if you close it and it goes into sleep mode it still counts any steps you take. (I could be wrong, but that's what I think.) Plus I live in the US and my system wouldn't update till the day AFTER it said the update was ready. But needless to say, it is now.

I too had Zelda on hold (just beat the Tail Cave boss), and as soon as I went out to the Home menu, the spotpass notification popped up on its own, asked me to press OK, and did its thing on its own.

So no, Zelda is not at fault.

It seems like they're following the PSP style of updating. My system had downloaded the update, but my battery was very low. I plugged it in, but it said that it would not update until the charge level was higher and would start automatically once the desired level was reached, which it did.

Well you don't want the system accidentally shutting off in the middle of an update. Then everything would be all messed up.

Of course. But it used to be that plugging it in would be enough. Now, they're actually a bit smarter and make sure that there's enough extra charge in case it gets unplugged again or something.
