Super Mario 3DS Warp Zone Found
« on: June 09, 2011, 08:56:31 PM »

The warp zone was well hidden.

At the first Nintendo roundtable, Super Mario 3DS producer Yoshiaki Koizumi revealed that there was a warp zone hidden in one of the levels featured in the Super Mario 3DS demo. Both Michael "TYP" Cole and I were searching for this fabled location during the last day of E3, but were having quite a bit of trouble because the hint word "turtle" was somewhat misleading. During the last hour we actually found it. Watch the video below. TYP is playing the game in the video.

I've been reading that this game is similar to SM64, does it have a hub world similar to Peach's Castle? That was one of my favorite parts about the 64 title.

Honestly, we can't tell from the demo. All we had was a level select menu.

So what did the "turtle" hint mean? I didn't see any turtle.

Of the four levels available to play, World 1-2 was the only one with Koopa shells scattered throughout the level. Just like classic Mario games you could run into it to set it in motion towards Goombas or blocks. Saying "turtle" helped us know that the warp was probably in 1-2, but I also assumed I would need to have the shell to hit a block or something else to activate the warp.

It's just not the same if you don't do the speeding car sound effect.  :-\
