Nintendo 3DS Preview Event Liveblog
« on: January 19, 2011, 12:43:02 AM »

Live from New York AND Amsterdam, NWR goes stereoscopic.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/24762

Nintendo is hosting two press conferences at the same time about the 3DS today (Wednesday), and Neal is in New York City live-blogging one of them, while Karlie is in Amsterdam covering the other. Check out the audio, text, and video below, and also join us in chat. The fun starts 9AM EST (3PM CET).

HighLowLive video from Amsterdam will be available when the show starts.

Live updates:

Presentation will begin in 5. They told us to sit.

6:08:13: No Glasses, bro!

6:08:57: Reggie's talking.

6:10:46: Announcing price, launch date, and titles. + more!

6:12:57: Telling us about the features.

6:14:11: Is this thing on?

6:17:45: Nintendogs+Cats also here.

6:19:26: Steel Diver. These three could be launch titles.

6:20:05: periscope level playable by tilting the system (gyroscope!)

6:20:41: OoT 3D and Kid Icarus also here.

6:21:31: reps from 7 publishers here. We know of EA, Capcom, Namco

6:21:48: Dead or Alive and Tecmo here.

6:23:58: Pro Evo Soccer 2011 3D (Konami) here.

6:24:28: Madden also here (we knew that). Peter Moore chatting it up via video.

6:24:34: Europe Event - Confirms there is a single Friend Code per system that works for all your games. You can observe which games friends are playing in real-time.

6:26:04: Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (still with that name?) here. Ono-san talking via video.

6:26:34: So far, nothing too groundbreaking (outside of the friend code revelation). I think the last 5 minutes will blow our faces off. Who will get it first? NA or Europe?

6:27:29: Ono-san is excitable. I like him.

6:28:01: Asphalt 3D, Combat of Giants (Ubisoft), Resident Evil Mercs (Capcom), Ridge Racer 3D (Namco Bandai), LEGO Star Wars III (LucasArts)

6:28:08: Big news coming!

6:28:45: Launch window: March to June, we'll get...30 games different games.

6:28:57: "Something for everyone"

6:29:59: Activity Log comes with system, pedometer included. Earn play coins spend money in different games to get bonus contents

6:30:17: Mii Maker is the title for that Mii maker thing.

6:30:44: In case it got lost, play coins are earned and spent in applicable games to get bonus stuff.

6:30:56: Miis exchanged, there's a plaza, etc. etc.

6:31:16: Face Raiders is pre-installed game. Shooting gallery game (Face Ace?)

6:31:47: AR Games come packed with hardware.

6:32:03: Reggie says its magic. I believe him.

6:32:27: Enhanced internet browser and 3D video player. Also, we got the DSi sound stuff, too. 3D camera.

6:32:40: UI has two rows (DSi has one similar-looking row)

6:32:49: Online updates post-purchase to make it better.

6:33:00: Tell us the goddamn launch date/price/games, man!

6:33:26: One Friend Code confirmed for NA. Less exciting now that we knew it already. If you connect wirelessly, no codes needed.

6:33:44: Looks like there will be a friends list of sorts ala XBL. Finally.

6:34:17: Street Pass being talked about. Instantly exchange data. Transfer Mii characters, gameplay data, and head-to-head battles.

6:34:35: Spot Pass makes contact with wireless broadband. Access internet and get things.

6:34:51: 3DS is slightly creepy. It does all this stuff without you. Skynet, man.

6:35:20: Digital game downloads: Nintendo E-Shop (GB, GBC, 3DSWare)

6:36:00: E-Shop Video. Select topics/genres you like and go from there. Videos able to be watched.

6:36:13: Looks nice. Way better than DSi Shop

6:36:42: Embarking on an ambitious tour: 5,000 interactive units at retail stores.

6:37:03: Mobile units as well. Taking it to the streets. 400,000 people (hopefully) during the launch.

6:37:48: $249.99!!!!!!!!!!

6:38:14: March 27th

6:38:33: Happy. Very happy with that. $250 price point is good.

6:39:01: Aqua blue and cosmic black, if that didn't get through before.

6:39:31: No launch day games confirmed unfortunately. Just have that "launch window" thing.

This is great news, and also saddening that I'm so excited that Nintendo has gotten to a point everyone else was at 10 years ago.

The blue 3DS is open for pre-order on Amazon, but I don't see the black one on there.

Uh, Sony didn't even have a unified system until the PS3 in 2006. Before then, every game required separate info.

It was announced to be going on until 3PM ET (another 1 1/2 hours), although I suppose they could have ended it earlier.

The European feed is on loop.  The events are still going on, so expect impressions/interviews/etc. later tonight.
