I am not convinced that the Merger has had, or will have any effect in that area. Both Square and Enix were pretty anti gamecube, and remain so. IN fact, almsot all Japanese companies brown nose the inferior Ps2, only tossing a few second rate carrots to the GC now and then.
If Nintendo plays it's cards right, and does what it says it will do, comes out with a system before Sony and MS do in the next round, and that system is backward compatible, then maybe, just maybe, they will gain back some market share and get some "real" third party suport.
If I was running nintendo i would be making all third parties offers they can refuse to buy support for gamecube, like free licensing deals and so on, whatever it takes to get some A-list exclusives for the system, and if that meant losing money for a while, so be it, because drastic measures need to be taken.
But I am not running Nintendo.
