Maybe I'm just confused.  The game is developed by Brownie Brown, right?  They're a Nintendo second-party from what I understand.  So what does Square-Enix have to do with the game, other than property rights to the name?  Are they just publishing it?  Seems weird to me.  Thanks.

Brownie Brown is making the game, but I imagine they are getting full support from Game Designer's Studio in all kinds of ways.  Brownie Brown isn't a big name, so they also get to use the Square-Enix name when releasing the game.  (And I guarantee you it will sell copies sadly enough).

Brownie Brown is developing it because the company is largely composed of designers that worked on previous Mana games.  Square hooked back up with them to develop Sword of Mana.

What happened to Magical Vacation?  I was way more interested in that than Mana 1, considering I played it like 10 years ago, and it was depressing as hell.  Good game, but depressing, and you could get stuck, feh.

I imported Magical Vacation back when it came out (Christmas 2001). It's a very good game, even though I didn't get most of the story (I understand very little Japanese). If the new Seiken Densetsu is anything like it (quality-wise), it'll be a really great game.

Whatever happened to the translation of it?  I remember PGC saying that it was being localized.....

Don't make me import it and try to put my feeble Japanese skills up to the task....

LOL Grey, I gotta learn some Jap so i can import too.  I hate it when games that im interested in don't come here due to translation cough*Fireemblem*cough.  Srry i had to add that little tid bit.

Anyways I heard that Seiken Densetsu is a good series.  Is this a port of the 3rd one for Snes that came out in Jap only?

No, it's a remake of the first one, which was released in America under the name "Final Fantasy Adventure".  I played Seiken Densetsu 2 - 4, so I am actually looking forward to it.  I didn't like Seiken Densetsu 3 as much as some people did, but it was a good game.  #2 (Secret of Mana) is still my favorite though.

OH Final Fantasy Adventure... I think i remember that game.  Anyways Secret of Mana was pretty good, liked how your party's A.I was actually good and not Craptactular like some other games.  Did you ever play Secret of Evermore?  Thats probably another Seiken Densetsu though.

Actually, Secret of Evermore was the Square game that was made entirely in the USA.  It's one of the few SNES carts I have managed to keep safe from thieves over the years.  I am probably one of the minority, but I really liked the game.  It used the same engine and mechanics as a Seiken Densetsu game, but the atmosphere and story was very different.

It takes a bit of time in the beginning to get enough stuff to continue on through the game, but once you do that, it's all good.  You just have to level build a bit, and collect enough ingredients to get some good spells going.  Don't worry though, it's the only part of the game you really have to do that.

brownie brown is made up of 3 people who used to work on the Mana series.  When sequare wanted to do a GBA game, they must've arranges for Brownie Brown to make it.

Yeah, Secret of Evermore suffered from a bad intro -- getting into the game was very hard, but once you were into it it was great.  But that first part... man.. ugh!  Didn't anyone playtest it?

Accually Game Developers Studio technically is no more. Square Enix is now listed as the Developer of FF:CC. The merger with Enix basically nullified the need for the pseudo studio.

Well in theory Game Developers Studio isn't needed any more in the aspect that Sony has less shares in stock b/c of the merger with Enix.  But Nintendo still wants some control of the games coming to cube and gba.  GDS is that key to control... are you sure that it is really gone?  I don't.

I am not convinced that the Merger has had, or will have any effect in that area. Both Square and Enix were pretty anti gamecube, and remain so. IN fact, almsot all Japanese companies brown nose the inferior Ps2, only tossing a few second rate carrots to the GC now and then.

If Nintendo plays it's cards right, and does what it says it will do, comes out with a system before Sony and MS do in the next round, and that system is backward compatible, then maybe, just maybe, they will gain back some market share and get some "real" third party suport.

If I was running nintendo i would be making all third parties offers they can refuse to buy support for gamecube, like free licensing deals and so on, whatever it takes to get some A-list exclusives for the system, and if that meant losing money for a while, so be it, because drastic measures need to be taken.

But I am not running Nintendo.

Sorry for dragging this off-topic, i will stop now...
