Wii Motion plus (issues)
« on: January 05, 2012, 01:11:42 AM »

I was curious if I am the only one who has a lot of problems with Wii Motion plus. I've not played with it all that much til now.

I picked it up, with the Wii Sports Resort bundleback when it first debuted.  It seems like it worked okay then, to be honest I didn't use it all that much:)

Recently, I picked up Skyward Sword and the control really seems to be all over the place.  I find the cursor lags behind all the time, and I have to constantly re-orient the cursor (push down the d-pad).  I'm not just flailing around, but it seems like many times it doesn't matter which direction I hold up the remote, the sword just kind of points straight out.  When I try to swing it feels like luck when the sword actually does what I intend.  I realize that it's not going to be perfectly one to one, but the controls just feel plain bad.  My hope is that maybe I have a defective Wii Motion Plus or something.

Are there any known issues with non built in units being bad, or less effective?  I hear such praise for the sword controls, but I'm not seeing it.

I've really enjoyed the non-sword control parts so far, and it's nice for the story to be more engaging than that last Zelda game.  I'm in the first dungeon, but finding fights rather difficult.

Thoughts?

I had issues with the dongle back when I tried to use it with Grand Slam tennis.

Long story short, I have a bunch of Wiimote Pluses now. 4 Black, 1 Gold.

Yeah, I had a Wii Motion Plus that became practically unplayable back with Red Steel 2. I switched to a new one and everything worked fine again. Pointing the sword should really be intuitive and work out of the box, so if you're having issues there it does sound to me like a Wii Motion Plus that's gone bad.

For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I had a weird controller issue. Every so often, the character on screen would move on his own as if I was holding the analog stick sharply to the left or right. I noticed this mainly with Skyward Sword though I believe it also happened in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Lost in Shadow. I don't remember if this was a problem with Donkey Kong Country Returns. I just had to unplug the nunchuck them plug it back in again. I never had that problem with a regular Wii Remote, only the Remote Plus. I don't think the controller or nunchuck was busted since it would work fine again once I unplugged/plugged the nunchuck.

I've had this issue before. In my case, it was due to dirty contacts on the Wiimote's plug, which causes it to think the Nunchuk becomes unplugged for a brief moment. This resets the neutral position of the stick, so if it's being pressed when this happens, it will cause it to behave incorrectly. You should try cleaning the contacts of the Nunchuk and your Wiimotes and see if it helps. It's also possible that the pins are loose/bent, which would be harder to correct.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will give them a try before breaking down and purchasing a new controller to give that a try.  (The other day they only had pink remotes, they must of had an amazing Christmas:)

I'll try and report back what I find.

Take care!
