Absolutely.  Like you, I love nearly everything that he does, but I would gladly wait a bit longer between Mario and Zelda games if it meant that we could get a completely original RPG out of him.  An FPS, why not?  It seems like a strange idea at first but it would probably turn out to be brilliant, so long as it isn't base on an existing franchise.  I'm sure that M could create some really amazing new stuff if he were to just get out of his comfort zone more often.  Look at Pikmin, THAT is what we need more of.  Maybe this Ground Zero or Fear will turn out just as amazing or better.  Only one day to wait and hopefully, several new franchises will be revealed to us.

Absolutely- some new franchise, like an RTS or something where you're a little spaceman who crashlanded on a planet and enlist the help of little plantlike creatures to piece back together your ship. Oh wait...

Aside from Metroid Prime and stuff, I doubt a FPS is very likely, since Nintendo tries to stay toward family/universally appealing games.  A branch of Nintendo may do one though, like Retro or Silicon Knights.  Fire Emblem is an RPG, and while I don't like RPGs much, I'd be willing to buy that.  If it came to the States. . .

isn't that why most of the major nintendo franchises were farmed off to other companies so nintendo/mr miyamoto could devote their time to new exciting games?

Well said my good man well said.  PIAC has made an excellent observation.  I thought about that too!  What could be taking up so much of miyamoto/nintindo's time that they needed to dump these franchises to second and third party developers.  The answer is only a couple of days away.  I know Nintendo  is going to surprise a lot of people at this year's E3.

FPS is was united gamers in N64. I can't imagine a game me and my friends played more than Goldeneye.

This FPS game got many hooked on N64. Another major one could push the envelope for Nintendo.

Deadly: In terms of quality, yes, I think most of us here would agree Zelda kills FF. In terms of sales, though, as of lately FF kills Zelda. FFX sold 2 million copies in less than a month in Japan alone- Zelda only broke a million after being released stateside. Pokemon is arguably Nintendo's biggest franchise in Japan at least, now (especially considering they can dupe people into buying what is essentially the same game 4 million times).

I think FF is a melodramatic load of crap.  I like to hear the plots from my friends, but I'd die if I had to play the whole game.  Of course, I dislike RPGs in general.  Zelda is much better.

Either way you look at it, Zelda and FF both have a killer following.  The Zelda series has become my favorite ever since OoT.  Up until then, it had always been Mario for me.  After playing through Mario64, I knew I had just played the greatest game of all time, but didnt expect Zelda OoT to push it down a notch and OoT became #1 in my book.  I think FF has a very differant appeal than Zelda, where as Zelda is more about gameplay, FF is more about the story.  Correctly me if I am wrong.

Mouse_Clicker - actually the Zelda series still sells better than the Final Fantasy series. The Zelda games have sold over 37 million copies so far, far more than the Final Fantasy series, and far more than pretty much any non-sports series out there (I'm only saying this because I don't have numbers on sports games) except for Pokemon and Mario...

That's TOTAL sales , Gamefreak- Zelda was bigger up till recently. Give FF a few more years and I garuantee you it will surpass Zelda in total sales.

Nah..I doubt it. FF is barely halfway there, if even that much. And if Nintendo decides to release a realistic Zelda - and puts the same amount of marketing effort into it as it did with Ocarina of Time - I garuntee it will blast FF and everything out of it's path. FF may sell 2 million in one weekend in Japan, but it doesn't sell much after that (go check and see), and doesn't do anywhere near that well that fast in the US. And Zelda games keep selling far after their release date. Most wal marts still stock Ocarina of Time. Hey, if Ocarina of Time could sell almost 8 million, Wind Waker can too before GCN's life span is out...especially with the bigger userbase.

heh...that's so completely contradictory, it's funny.  The market is flooded with those types of games.  You'll rarely see Nintendo trying to fill genres, and when they do, they do it their own way, instead of following outside expectations.

Huh?  Miyamoto wouldn't want to develop a FPS.  That's not his style.  Or EAD's for that matter.  They work on their strengths, and FPS isn't one of them.  They focus on innovative games for all ages, and that's why we love Nintendo.

I wouldn't mind seeing some totally off-the-wall adventure game.  Mario can be a bit trippy at times, but just something completely wierd would be fun.  Sure, we have some games like Ratchet & Clank out, which are odd, but who needs to play by any sort of scientific rules?  It would be neat if he made up his own world, entirely, and populated it entirely.  I remember reading  some books (xanth series) where they went to these oddly shaped worlds, and each had a theme, they also had a different shape.  Because of this shape, gravity acted in a very odd way.  Something like this could be fun, really challange gamers.
