This only applies to the PC version, so I am posting it here. A small percentage of people complained last year when Activision Blizzard did not do dedicated servers for
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. They have sort of listened. Activision announced today that the PC version of
Call of Duty: Black Ops WILL have dedicated servers, but for a price.
They announced that they are partnering up with gameservers.com to "rent" dedicated servers. Ranked servers will be $14.95 a month with a max of 18 players per server, unranked servers will be $0.99 a month with a max of 24 players. You can save 5% if you pre-purchase 3 months, 10% with 6 months, and 15% with 12 months.
You won't have to rent a dedicated server to play the game, but they are touting that doing so will provide you with the ability to kick players out, ban players, and configure it how you want. I am not a PC gamer, but this seems lame considering that they seem to be the only ones doing this and it is purely a money matter.
Here is the story, BTW:
