GoldenEye DS Coming, Developed by n-Space
« on: June 18, 2010, 01:38:11 PM »
n-Space confirmed that there will be a DS version of GoldenEye, and it will be developed by them.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=23437

Activision announced a new GoldenEye game for Wii during Nintendo's press conference, and today, n-Space announced that they're working on the DS version.

"One parting announcement," n-Space said on their Facebook. "At E3 this year, Activision and Nintendo announced GoldenEye as a Wii exclusive. Not quite. We're happy to confirm that a DS version is in the works at n-Space. More on this next week!"

n-Space has previously worked on other first-person shooters, including the Call of Duty DS games and Geist for GameCube. They were at E3 representing their Tron games for Wii and DS.

All this Goldeneye stuff seems a little much.  The Wii version sounds competent but perhaps more so than with any videogame Goldeneye is just a name.  The original game was never big because of James Bond or because it was based on the Goldeneye movie.  It was more or less the first Perfect Dark game, it just had the James Bond licence.  That's it.  It's just the first in a series of games Rare made for the N64 that sadly dipped in quality after Rare was bought by Microsoft.

It was never about James Bond.  EA didn't realize that and I question if Activision does.

Exactly.

I tried hard not to be negative and "joke" that Activision announcing Goldeneye for Wii would mean yearly installments but considering they're making 2 of the same game.. well it IS a little much. If this was a NEW movie franchise game I'd get it; every time a new Bond flick (or any movie franchise game) comes out its made for every system imaginable. But this particular Goldeneye is assumed to be something special because of the nostalgia it has with so many gamers.

I feel like putting it on DS would just dilute the experience they're trying to recreate. At least the Wii version has the CCPro so it can play close to what the original Goldeneye played like (I'm hoping there's a button configuration that mimics it but depending on how much they ad to it, it might not happen) but on the DS it won't feel the same, ya know?

Perhaps the DS version is a port of the original game?

Unlikely or else we wouldve gotten the port on the VC already. The only reason we're getting this Goldeneye is because its NOT a port of the original game, just a "reinvisioning".

Though I wouldn't mind if Rare worked something out with Activision & Nintendo for a DS port, but then i'd rather it:

A. be for VC anyway
B. be worked on by Rare themselves not n-space

Rare are allowed to make DS games right? or am i mistaken in that?

They have been allowed to work on Nintendo's handhelds in the past. A DS port of the original game would seem to solve a lot of the licensing issues, in that it's something I could see both Nintendo and Microsoft agreeing to, but that and the fact that it would be guaranteed to make a ****-ton of money for everyone involved make me think that if it were going to happen, it would have happened already.

Its activision. They'll release a 3D version once that system launches along side some sort of Goldeneye sequel

Exaactly. Still, I'd rather it Not be on DS, personally, because of controls, which is the main reason I'm not really feeling this version of Goldeneye Redux

I think it is kind of weird how there is a DS version of this game. I can't imagine it will control well. Have other shooters on DS sold well?

ian hit it on the head with this one, Goldeneye was popular because of the gameplay not because of the movie license....I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN GOLDENEYE THE MOVIE. Had the game been released as Perfect Dark maybe Perfect Dark would be more popular.  Nintendo wasn't getting much PSX flack back in 1997 for being kiddie yet. Most people were very neutral in terms of what could be put on a Nintendo console(even after the Sega/Nintendon't deal). Then suddenly despite the popularity of Goldeneye Nintendo was kiddie. A game had to play like **** and have nothing but blood and guts to be good. This is probably because of Resident Evil and Metal Gear(which are great games actually) hitting the psx and then the numerous shitty clones hitting the market.

I believe the Call of Duty games (also developed by n-Space) have been great sellers for Activision.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
